TAGAYTAY PICNIC GROVE, Tagaytay
HISTORY OF TAGAYTAY PICNIC GROVE
Between 1956 and 1964, under the leadership of presidents Carlos P. Garcia and Diosdado Macapagal, Tagaytay aimed to establish itself as the premier tourist destination by developing a 13-hectare picnic area known as Picnic Grove. Nonetheless, the Picnic Grove was quickly deserted. Between 1970 and 1975, affluent families in Manila began constructing their weekend homes along the ridge. Consequently, the Picnic Grove was tidied up and renovated.
On December 22, 1980, the City Government of Tagaytay officially transferred the oversight of Picnic Grove to the National Government, via the Department of Tourism and HSDC/SICOR/PTA. And on December 23, 2005, the management of Picnic Grove was handed back to the City Government of Tagaytay by the Department of Tourism after 25 years of oversight.
