Unity is a cross-platform game engine developed by Unity Technologies that serves as a tool that allows for an accelerated game production process. Unity Hub is a standalone application for accessing the Unity ecosystem that aims to streamline the way developers find and download editor versions and help them manage their projects, component installations and licenses.
The objective of this client revamp is to conduct extensive heuristic analysis on user needs and platform functionality against Unity Hub's competitors, with the ultimate goal of refining and improving the Unity Hub interface for visual clarity and ease of use.
The Heuristic Analysis process began with defining key user groups and establishing personas based on real usage patterns. Competitor analysis was conducted to understand industry standards, interaction patterns, and visual hierarchies across similar developer tools. These insights informed task flows that prioritised common user goals and reduced friction.
A heuristic evaluation was then used to identify usability issues, assess accessibility and consistency, and highlight opportunities for refinement to ensure that design decisions were grounded in both user needs and established usability principles.
