Carrot Club is a mobile application based on a hypothetical space hydroponics company. It is intended to be a hub portal that mirrors the experience of an interactive social platform where users can pledge their support for space gardening, find a community of other like-minded individuals and receive frequent news updates about the field.
This multi-stage project is built from the ground up as a culmination of research on user interface and user experience design. I sought to establish a distinctive and consistent geometric style for the logos, posters and interface elements. My end goal was a product which is aesthetically balanced, friendly and welcoming, yet futuristic and brimming with potential. The project also served as an opportunity for me to learn new techniques and expand my skillset on various graphic design programs, such as Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Illustrator and Figma.
I conducted research and analysis was to figure out the best practices in designing for a mobile user centric experience. I set my eyes on a sleek, geometric interface which thematically reflects the intended aesthetic of the application, and aimed to create a consistent layout across each page.
Headers and footers are consistent across different pages to help frame the dimensions of the application and ground users for ease of navigation. Content fields are scaled according to the information displayed. They are split into digestible blocks with generous padding for visual clarity.
Throughout the process, I have gained a newfound appreciation on the impact colour, typography and logo design brings to the table. Humans are highly visual and much of our intuition on mobile application comes from the perceivable clarity of the experience. I ran through numerous iterations on the colour scheme, opting for a cool retro-pastel look to maintain a cohesive visual identity. Pale mint and persian greens evoke optimistic growth and peace, while seashell white and navy blues provide great contrast polarity in highlighting elements for both light and dark mode applications.
The sans-serif font choice is selected to maintain a uniform look across the application which conveys modernity and approachability, and also preserve high visual clarity on smaller screen resolutions. This extends to the logo designs of various interactive elements on buttons and panel elements, aiming to provide a positive spin that remains faithful familiar iconography while retaining the thematic flavour of the application concept.
