Low-income families are often hit hardest by the impacts of climate change and oftentimes, do not have adequate materials on hand to support themselves or knowledge about the issue itself.
The Fire Safety Group assembled and distributed over 300 fire safety kits to economically challenged families, as well as educated over 35 schools through a virtual emergency preparedness presentation and interactive activity.
Throughout the course of the Fire Safety and Emergency Preparedness project, club members contacted a variety of organizations and individuals in the community to help achieve our goal of both distributing Emergency Safety Kits and pushing for greater education. To begin, the education aspect of our project would not have been possible without the 35+ school administrators from across the Bay Area's keen responses, as well as the Buddies4Math organization. Additionally, our 300+ fire safety kits would not have been possible without the contributions of PATCH Bandages, Sparky Schoolhouse, PTSA, Green Team members, Joffrey's Emergency Services, Santa Clara Fire Department, and Eco-Gloves. Our distribution also would not have been possible without the help of the Ecumenical Hunger Program and Second Harvest Food Bank.
