Clickbait is content designed to make you click on it. It often uses exciting, shocking, or emotional words.
Why it can be misleading:
Clickbait is not always completely false, but it often exaggerates or leaves out important details. The headline may not match what the content actually says. Its goal is to get your attention, not to give you accurate information.
Misinformation is false or incorrect information. It may look real and believable.
Why it is false or misleading:
The information itself is wrong, even if it looks like real news or comes with images. Sometimes real photos are used in the wrong context (for example, an old photo used to describe a new event). Sometimes, photos and videos are made by A.I. to look real, even though they are fake. People often share misinformation without realizing it is not true.
Propaganda is information designed to influence how people think, feel, or act, especially about political or social issues.
Why it can be false or misleading:
Propaganda does not always include completely false information, but it often:
shows only one side of a story
leaves out important facts
uses strong emotional language (fear, anger, pride)
encourages βus vs. themβ thinking
This can lead to narrow thinking because people are not given the full picture. Instead of helping you understand an issue, propaganda tries to push you toward a specific opinion.
Satire is content meant to be funny or a joke. It often looks like real news.
Why it can be misleading:
Satire is not meant to be taken seriously, but if someone does not realize it is a joke, they may believe it is real. This can lead to confusion or spreading false information unintentionally.
It gets attention (people are more likely to click or share it)
It creates strong emotions (fear, anger, excitement)
It looks real (like news or expert advice)
It is easy to share quickly
People may not stop to check if it is true
Some content is made to get clicks, views, or ad revenue. The more people click, the more money the creator can make.
Some content is designed to influence opinions about political issues, groups, or leaders. It may try to persuade people to support one side.
Some content is created as a joke or for entertainment (like satire), but it can still be misunderstood.
Some content spreads false information, either on purpose or by mistake.
Stop and think before you click or share
Check where the information comes from
