The United Nations Human Rights Council serves as an international forum for discussion on human rights issues and the adoption of resolutions that reflect the will of the international community. This forum brings UN member states together to address the ongoing global crisis regarding human rights. In committee, delegates will discuss arbitrary torture and detention—an urgent international issue that must be addressed through collaborative measures. Depending on the country's policy and past initiatives, delegates should create innovative yet feasible solutions.
Dear Delegates,
My name is Sofia Caldentey and I'm a sophomore! I've been doing Model UN since my freshman year of high school. Outside of the club I play and coach field hockey and volunteer at a nursing home. I will be chairing UNHRC this year!! Throughout committee I hope delegates without much experience in MUN get comfortable with the flow of committee and become more confident in themselves as speakers and leaders. I understand how scary it is to go up and give a speech or trying to get a paper started with a big group, so I will try my hardest to make the UNHRC a welcoming committee experience where delegates grow and mistakes are seen as a sign of strength. I hope you are just as excited for LABMUNC VI as I am, and I can't wait to see what each of you bring to the table as delegates!
Best,
Sofia Caldentey
