Artificial intelligence is no longer futuristic; idea it’s reshaping how organizations are managed.
In 2023, a report by McKinsey & Company estimated that AI could automate up to 30% of current work activities forcing managers to remind teams operate. Imagine a workplace where decisions are guided not only by human judgment, but also algorithms that predict outcomes, optimize schedules, and evaluate employee performance. This shift is transforming the very foundation of administration and management.
As businesses tries to remain competitive and efficient, AI is becoming integrated into administrative processes as planning, organizing, and decision-making. This transformation connects to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth), which emphasizes innovation and productivity in modern economies.
This AI shift is transforming the very foundation of administration and management by making work more efficient, changing how managers lead, and creating new ethical challenges in the workplace.
Efficiency
The administration and management program train students to understand and effectively lead the operations of an organization. It's an essential concept as planning, organizing, leading, and controlling human, financial, and materials resources. Students develop skills in communication, decision-making, leadership, and problem-solving. This program provides a broad understanding of the business world preparing individuals to manage projects, coordinate teams, and adapt the challenges of a changing professional environment.
Leadership changes
I interviewed my professor, Vincent Bengoufa-Maltais, who works at MNP’s Alma office. He says: “I use AI at work to streamline my daily tasks. It’s also how I set myself apart from my colleagues by finding ways to achieve my goals using AI in the workplace.” It is therefore clear using artificial intelligence automates and speeds up operations in this company thanks to the new technique used by Vincent, which sets him apart from others in the company. He uses the Copilot AI tool from the Microsoft suite. For example, he uses AI to perform various repetitive and time-consuming tasks, such as automating document-related tasks (summarizing reports, drafting emails, and generating notes to be quickly sent to clients). He also standardizes workflows, such as creating reusable templates to save time on project management and continuously improving communication (rewriting complex financial information into a format that is easier for the client to understand). What sets him apart isn’t that this is a unique invention, but rather his strategic approach to using it within the company.
Ethical challenges
Artificial intelligence presents several challenges in administration and management. One key is data privacy, as AI tools rely on large amounts of sensitive information. Another concern is bias, which can lead to unfair or discriminatory outcomes if the data used is flawed. There is also a risk of overreliance on AI systems, such as Microsoft Copilot. As noted by Vincent Bengoufa-Maltais, AI is highly effective when used properly, but it must be applied responsibly. Managers must therefore ensure that human judgment remains central.
Artificial intelligence is redefining administration and management by introducing new ways to improve efficiency and support decision-making. However, it's integration also requires managers adapt to evolving roles and responsibilities addressing ethical challenges. Success in the modern workplace depend on the ability to combine technological tools with human judgment. Ultimately, the most effective leaders will be those embrace innovation while maintaining a strong focus on responsible and thoughtful management.
Therefore, resisting this transformation, organizations and future managers must actively adapt by developing new skills, promoting ethical use of technology and ensuring human judgment remains at the core of decision-making. The future of management will not belong to AI alone, but to those who can effectively combine human insight with technological innovation.
