Preparation - First Steps

1. Complete Louisiana 4-H Volunteer Qualifications - Become a 4-H volunteer by contacting your parish Extension office. Click here to locate contact information for your parish Extension office.

2. Consider A Volunteer Role - To ensure that volunteers are used efficiently and effectively, it’s crucial to define their roles and responsibilities. Consider in which volunteer role you would like to serve. Click here to read more.

3. Expectations and Letter of Recommendation - Read through the expectations for both Mentors and Mentees. Click here to access the expectations for both. Then, contact your parish's 4-H agent to complete and submit a Letter of Recommendation to the Mentoring Program Coordinator. The letter can be sent via email to or mailed to the program coordinator. You will receive a letter of acceptance from the program coordinator.

4. Skills Questionnaires - Complete either the Mentor or Mentee questionnaire provided below. Then email the document to Be sure to add the word Questionnaire in the subject line.
