BIOGRAPHY
tws ; child neglect , abandonment , self-harm , violence !
James Pleiades Hawkins was born to Leland and Sarah Hawkins, who were both very young at the time. It was clear that Leland was more than unprepared for the challenges of raising a child, but Sarah filled that void and made sure that Jim knew he was wanted and loved. However, while he adored and was close to his mother, it was very clear that the young boy yearned for his father to love him. To try to get his attention (and hopefully a smidgeon of praise), he built model ships and boats much like the ones heโs seen his father board for trips and voyages. Sadly, though, nothing worked, as when Jim tried to show Leland his crafts, the man just wasnโt interested. There were times when he was even screamed at and berated for nagging his father, which caused a lot of arguments between his parents.
When he was twelve years old, as he was getting ready for bed, Jim overheard Leland and Sarah arguing about him. The last thing he heard was Leland saying that he was never ready for raising a family, that he never would be, and Sarah telling him to leave if that was the case, that she wouldnโt stop him; however, he didnโt want the possibility of his father leaving them for good to be true.
The next morning, he awoke to the sound of a shipโs horn at the innโs dock signaling for departure and the sight of Leland heading to the ship. He rushed downstairs as fast as he could, only to see Sarah at the dining room table crying. His attempt to reach his father and beg him to stay was futile, as the ship took off from the dock just before he could step foot onto the plankโฆ and, just like that, Leland Hawkins was gone forever, never to return to them again.
Jim fell into a deep depression, not even wanting to hear his favorite bedtime story about the legendary Captain Flint and Treasure Planet, which he usually still loved to read. He began to secretly cut himself, unbeknownst to his mother as he had on the jacket that he refused to take off no matter how hot Montressor became. He also became very rebellious and would often take his solar surfer out on joyrides in places he knew he wasnโt allowed, and it certainly didnโt help that his surfer was unauthorized, as he had built it himself and never bothered to get it licensed. On top of all that, he was refusing to go to school, which caused his grades to slip and his teachers having to constantly call Sarah to threaten him with truancy.
One day, Jim had gotten into an argument with his mother about his future, the same exact one they'd had for 5 years. He left to fix up his surfer and met a little boy named Ethan, who marveled at his invention and told him about his busted scooter. Just as he was about to fix it up, though, Ethan's dad took over, and Jim, having the memories flood back of his own father not bothering to even help him with his surfer, took to the skies. To clear his head, he did a couple of tricks he'd taught himself over the years and soared through a restricted industrial plant. This was where he got caught and escorted by police back to the Benbow Inn.
The threats to get sent to juvenile hall were futile, as Jim had heard them over and over before. Besides, he knew that his mother would never do that, as she loved him too much to actually make him go. However, that night, everything changed. He'd been on the rooftop, tossing pebbles off of it in order to distract from the urge to hide in his bedroom and cut himself again. Overhearing his mother talking to Doppler about how difficult it was to raise him made the boy feel extremely guilty.
Just then, a ship crashed into the dock across from the house, and Jim ran toward it to see if there was anyone inside. There, he met Billy Bones, who was on the run from pirates. He helped the injured salamander to the Benbow, where he hoped he could help him. However, it was futile, as Bones had succumbed to his injuries, but not before whispering into Jim's ear to "beware the cyborg".
It wasn't long before a band of pirates blasted through the Benbow Inn in search of the map, destroying almost everything in sight in their wake and burning it down. Jim, his mother, and Doppler barely escaped in time, going to stay at Doppler's mansion until they received word about the inn, though they all knew that there was nothing salvaged and they had no home to return to any longer.
Jim discovered that he had the ability to unlock the sphere, which turned out to be a map to none other than the real-life Treasure Planet. He was excited at the idea of finding the real thing after all these years, made to believe it was only a made-up story in a book, but his mother disagreed right off the bat. After a few minutes of arguing, both Jim and Delbert convinced Sarah to let him go and find Flint's gold, with the promise to her that he'd be safe... and, most of all, make her proud of him after so many disappointments.
The next morning, Jim and Delbert set off for Crescentia, the space port for interstellar travelers. There, they boarded the R.L.S. legacy, and to say the young man was excited was an understatement. This was the very first time that he had been able to go somewhere other than Montressor, and it was exciting. He and Delbert met the Captain, who Jim was immediately not fond of at first, even moreso when she turned out to be strict just like those cops, but almost worse. She'd taken the map and hidden it away in her saferoom, then assigned him to work with the ship's cook, Mr. John Silver. He and Doppler were escorted down to the galley, where Silver turned out to be... a cyborg.
Heeding Bones' warning about the cyborg, the young explorer tried keeping his distance as best he could. He was cold upon meeting Silver, convinced that the Ursid was up to no good. However, Silver began to chip away at the young man, seeing that he was hurting over not having a father figure in his life, and Jim, despite being hostile and testy, slowly let those walls down.
It was during a little game of chase / hide-and-seek with Morph and soon after being stuck in a purp barrel that Jim learned Silver's true motive: to overtake the ship and steal Flint's treasure for himself and his crew when they got to Treasure Planet... and, in the process, kill him, Doppler, and the captain. After this discovery, Jim ran to the captain's quarters after debilitating the Ursid to make a quicker getaway, informing her of the situation at hand.
The landing of the ship they boarded was... rough, to say the least, and the captain got seriously hurt. Jim and Morph - who had been disguised as the map during the mutiny - set off to scout out the place as ordered by Amelia when they came across a robot who called himself B.E.N. They joined him in his house, which was really just a hollow tree with a few holes in it.
Silver then came and tried to bargain for the map, including trying to bribe Jim into giving it up as he thought he had grabbed it. After a tense argument, the young man decided then to retrieve the real map from the Legacy, resulting in a fight with Mr. Scroop, which, fortunately, ended after the spider psycho was launched into deep space.
The young man returned with the map, but he soon discovered, to his horror, that Silver was waiting for him, having tied up Doppler and the captain and forcing Jim to open the map, seeing as he was the only one who could. After the map was opened, Jim, Silver, and the rest of them followed the green trail to where Treasure Planet was supposed to be. Upon discovering the portal, Jim was able to figure out that Flint's method was stealing treasure by going through it to different worlds, roaming the universe.
They finally found the place where the treasure was hidden, and Jim planned to make an escape by hotwiring the ship that was in there. It was then that Silver tried to take over the ship so that he could have the treasure that was onboard, but then, a beam from the planet's self-destruct panel knocked Jim overboard and caused him to almost slip into the core of the planet that had opened up. Silver ended up saving the boy, however, and they both watched as the ship was destroyed.
The pair along with Morph got back onto the Legacy with only minutes to spare, and Jim decided to open up the portal by hotwiring a piece of scrap onto a rocket booster, building himself a makeshift solar surfer. It was a close call, but with the young man's speed and skills, they made it through the portal.
After the whole ordeal, Jim had a talk with Silver and helped him to escape so he could avoid going to prison for what he did. In return, Jim got to adopt Morph and said a bittersweet goodbye to the cyborg who earned his trust once again. The crew traveled back to Montressor, and the young spacer reunited with his mom.
Jim helped Sarah with the rebuilding of the Benbow Inn, and soon after, he was enlisted into the Interstellar Academy, overseen by Admiral Amelia. He graduated to Lieutenant quickly and was celebrated for his accomplishments when he returned home. Now, he travels the globe in search of new adventure with his own crew, hoping to run into a certain runaway cyborg someday...
