Thammasat University organizes a commemoration of the October 6, 1976, incident on its 48th anniversary.
October 6, 2024, Thammasat University held an event marking the 48th anniversary of the October 6, 1976, incident, which remains one of the most significant events in Thai political history. In the morning, a merit-making ceremony was held, with 19 monks receiving alms.
Later, Thammasat University President, 'Mr. Suphasawat Chatchawal,' opened the event by stating that although 48 years have passed, Thai politics still revolves around issues that the country hopes to overcome. He personally views that every time such an event occurs, we should use the sacrifice or the suffering of the people as a catalyst to make society aware of the importance of rights, freedom, and political stability. As the president of Thammasat University, he expressed respect for the heroes who sacrificed their lives to protect the democratic system of governance. He believes that although the event happened many years ago, everyone still remembers and honors the sacrifices made that day. He also encourages the younger generation to understand what happened on October 6th, as they are the key to ensuring that governance continues to be democratic.
