I have a handful of Kyocera Taskalfa copiers of various ages. (2017 vintage to today) I have a generic virtual queue in Papercut that permits the job to be picked up at any copier. I'm currently using the KX driver for a 5053ci with the virtual queue. It works for 95% of print jobs, but certain jobs will print 1 or 2 pages, then print a PCL error page.
It seems that the failures are on generally more complicated jobs, like when it calls for stapling or duplex. Printing directly to the copiers using the model-specific KX driver works fine. I'm guessing there's certain driver differences between generations, and it's freaking out because of that.

So, is there a universal driver for Kyocera Taskalfas like there is for HP? So long as basic functions like duplex and staple work, it would be great. I've been searching Kyocera's site, but it's not a fantastic experience.
Downloaded MAC print driver version 20190624 (the only one available) from Opens a new window download center and installed. Printer installed via ip address and chosen the corresponding driver (Kyocera Taskalfa 3551ci - KDPL).
On a 2016 MacBook Pro with macOS 10.14.4 beta (developer access to beta releases), just today, I spent hours today, and actually I haven't succeeded in 2-years, trying to install print drivers that work on my networked Kyocera Mita KM-4035 printer in my office. However, I have found a solution.
It's crucial to note that the newest drivers do not work on Mojave or any macOS version past 10.5 (I have not documented the testing earlier versions in the last two years, but since Kyocera offers drivers for those versions, I'm assuming they work for those versions, but I wouldn't bet on it.) The secret is to use Linux PPD drivers. I'm reading they worked on macOS 9, as well. Here is the source article:
Use the "Default" tab in the "Add" printer window that pops up when pressing the plus button (+) in the Printers & Scanners window in System Preferences. My KM-4035 was recognized as a "Bonjour" Kind (type) printer. In the "Use:" field, select "other..." and select the downloaded Linux driver.
Note that PPD probably has limitations that using TCP/IP does not. If not, I've read it has limitations compared to the capabilities of the Kyocera drivers using the HP Jetdirect - Socket. (It's working for printing what I want to print, though, so I'm elated.)

If you're using the network connection to this scanner, then you don't need to install any Kyocera drivers. However, you might need to make sure your firewall is configured to allow VueScan to talk to your scanner.
All PPD files of this driver entry are available in the PostScript Printer Application Under this entry Kyocera's PPD files for their PostScript printers are hosted. PostScript printers are supported natively in Linux and Unix environments, so you only need the PPD file for your printer, no driver executables, to get access to all printing functionality. The PPD contains all information about properties and user-settable options which are specific to the printer and makes printing dialogs show these options and allow the user to control all the printer's functionality. The PPDs only support the printing functionality of the printers. To use extra functionality, like scanning, faxing, ... you will perhaps need additional software. Note that these printers work, like all other PostScript printers, with generic PostScript PPD files, but then you will not get access to all the printer specific functionality.
Kyocera does not have any support forums and all documentation I have found for our specfic model of printer and driver version do not show screenshots that look anything like what either of us are seeing so it's not much help.
It ended up being different because of our respective screen resolutions. I was using a very low res laptop display. The printer driver software is being clever and hiding part of the preferences dialog box for smaller screens.
