Kyle J. Gardner, Ph.D.

I am a historian of South Asia interested in environmental history, geopolitics, and border making. My first book project—The Frontier Complex: Geopolitics and the Making of the India-China Border, 1846-1962—approaches these three interrelated areas by examining how colonial border-making practices in British India both (1) reshaped pre-colonial understandings of environment and territory and (2) produced disputed borderlands along the Himalaya that continue to be a major source of tension between India and China.
