As a kurzgesagt fan, you are already part of a large worldwide community of like-minded people.
Through this meetup, we want to make this amazing community visible.
Let's connect!
All of the organization is happening via the subreddit, which we created for this event.
You can enter it here: r/kurzgesagt_meetup
The subreddit is public until October 15th, and will be changed to private after this.
If you want to connect with the global kurzgesagt community afterwards, feel free to join our Discord server via discord.gg/kurzgesagt.
First, have a look if there is already a meetup planned in your city. And if there isn't, you can take the initiative and organize one in the comments.
Everybody appreciates people who organize fun things and the simple act of reaching out can kickstart a friendship.
The meetups are completely self-organized by you. When organizing your meetup try to be as precise as possible when communicating the meeting point, time, and the activity you have planned. This makes it easier for other people to also join the meetup.
Here’s an example:
Hey, I’m Duck and I’d love to go to the Palaeontological Museum in Munich on Saturday, 10th of October. Let’s meet in front of the museum at 2 pm, I’m going to be wearing my kurzgesagt Hoodie so you can spot me easily.
The most important thing is: don't stress too much about what to plan for your meetup. This is about getting to know each other and perhaps discovering things that you have in common. It is just the first small step. How it continues after that is up to you.
Of course, you can meet wherever you want to and do whatever you like, but we highly suggest choosing a public space for your first meetup.
Here you will find some inspiration for what you could do:
Kurzgesagt-related Activities
You all have one thing in common: You like kurzgesagt!
You could meet up at places you connect with kurzgesagt. The observatory, for example, or the natural history museum.
Team Sports
Achieving something as a team creates bonds. Maybe you have a public volleyball or soccer field in your town? Don't forget to mix up the teams so that you all get to know each other.
Do you like activities of a competitive nature in general? What about something like laser tag or mini golf? You could form teams to go to an escape room to test your problem-solving skills. Or explore the city through a scavenger hunt or an afternoon of geocaching. Maybe you've wanted to go on an extended hike? Successfully completing an exhausting or challenging task is something you can be proud of together.
Volunteering / Giving Back
How about doing something for a good cause? What about teaming up to organize a clean-up? You could help out in your local soup kitchen or even go and donate blood as a team.
Try Something new
Is there something you've always wanted to try but no one in your social circle wants to come? You could go to an art or cooking class together, do a pottery workshop or go slacklining in the park.
The options are limitless and now is your chance! Maybe you'll meet someone with a hobby you've always wanted to try?
Teach and Learn
Is there something very special that you have mastered? Are you a professional kayaker? How about a round of Slide-Karaoke in which you introduce a topic to each other?
Offer your experience to others and teach them something.
Spend Some Relaxing Time Outside
If you're up for something more chill, what about meeting for a picnic or barbeque, watching the sunset together, or spending the afternoon playing some board games?
Theoretically, there are a million topics to talk about. Yet, we know it can be hard to start a conversation with people you don't know.
But no matter where you are from or what you're doing in life, you all have at least one thing in common: you like kurzgesagt. So a good starting point to begin a conversation is:
What is your favorite kurzgesagt video (or videos) and why?
Other possible topics to talk about could be:
At the kurzgesagt HQ, every new team member is asked these two questions, we think they are especially good icebreakers:
What's your favorite dinosaur and why?
What's your favorite pasta and why?
Which are your favorite places in the city?
What do you wish you had more time for?
What is your job / what are you studying and what is the best thing about it?
What kind of music are you into?
Which book has influenced you the most?
Where would you like to travel next?
What does friendship mean to you and what do you value most in a friendship?
Is there something that you've dreamed of doing for a long time? Why haven't you done it yet?
What's your best / worst habit?
If you could wake up tomorrow having gained any one ability or quality, what would it be?
For what in your life do you feel the most grateful?
What is a good life for you?
Even though we won't be able to attend your meetup, we'd love to be part of it and see what you all did!
Take a picture and share it on Social Media with the hashtag #kgsmeetup
You can also tag us directly, on Instagram (@kurzgesagt) or Twitter/X (@kurz_gesagt).
But make sure that everyone who is in the picture is also okay with it being shared online.
Either way, we hope you enjoy your meetup and get the chance to meet people with whom you have things in common.
We’re really excited to see our community meeting up in real life!
Please note that all meetups are completely self-organized by you. We don't tell you how to run the meetup, we just want to give you some inspiration on what you could do and where you could go. Also, we strongly recommend to choose a public space for your meetup.
