Kuna Volleyball is going to be built upon a foundation of our three core values: Enjoy, Improve, Compete
While all three core values are important, we start with the idea of enjoyment. It is important that our student-athletes view volleyball as the best part of their day; coming to practice, being around their teammates, and competing at the highest level of IHSSA athletics should be the most enjoyable part of their day and that onus is up to the coaching staff. It is our duty to provide an environment where enjoyment is of utmost importance whether that be in or outside of the gym.
The second value of improvement covers every member of the Kuna High School Volleyball program: student-athletes and coaches alike. We all must believe in the idea that we are learners first and foremost, and are happy to be vulnerable in the process of learning and getting better. Growth mindset will be at the forefront of everything we do…no one is stuck in the skillset they currently have. As a team, we must accept the fact that we will make mistakes and errors will happen. That is okay…as long as we try and grow from those mistakes and errors.
The last component of competing refers to the idea that nearly everything we do in our gym will have a competition piece to it. It is unrealistic for the coaching staff to expect the student-athletes to compete on game days if we do not compete during practice. Our ultimate goal is to be just as, if not more, competitive in our own gym than when we compete against other programs. From competition comes growth, and if we’re constantly growing…we are more likely to enjoy what we are doing.
As a program, we will never, ever talk about winning. Winning is a by-product of our training. If we do things the right way more times than not, we will most likely find more success than failure.
Kuna High School Volleyball will prioritize the process over the results and learning over winning.
