Yue Zhu's Testimonial

During more than two years in Tokimatsu laboratory, I made self-growth as the target and worked hard for it, meanwhile I got great assistance from professor and other students. As the result, I established the necessary values for a future member of Japan society. In addition, I obtained a lot of knowledge that could not be learned from textbooks, as well as several ability and culture.

Firstly, I accumulated a large amount of culture and knowledge in the laboratory, thus this process could be a preparation for practice in real job. In the laboratory, I learned environmental technology, energy system, MOT (Management of Technology), and knowledge of economics or finance, and I think it is such a diversification of knowledge, so that I never felt boring. Additionally, about the foreign language as Japanese and English, I improved skills of listening, speaking, reading, writing, and translation based on the experience from presentation or other activities inside or outside the university.

Secondly, I managed to obtain the opportunity to come into contact with advanced technology or science and culture in Japan or abroad because of the laboratory. I got the chance to go to study meeting introduced by the professor, not only did I saw the eternal development history and the high-quality technology in Japan, but also did I get to know the reason that Japan had been standing on the top of worldwide technologies, which is the outstanding technology management. In addition, when I made a short-term visit to United States, the laboratory gave me a great deal of financial help. Through these exchange activities, I obtained a great experience of discussing with excellent scientific researchers or business owners.

Finally as the most important thing, I refined my personality after I began to feel the serious research attitude from professors and other students in the laboratory. They were always trying their best to focus on the research, seriously discussing why the outcomes were gotten based on various fields of knowledge. The experience of working hard to be the similar person is a big treasure for me; it might lead me to a steady expand of future job and a higher stage in the workplace.

Additionally when we mention the disadvantage of the laboratory, it is that the lab life is too busy. Basically there was no spare time for you to make a part-time job outside the laboratory. As a lab member, you had better think about your living expenses as early as possible, lend it or get it from your parents.

The 2.5 years life in Tokimatsu laboratory may be too short for the whole journey of life, but it is really a satisfied and shiny life experience. Fulfilled with swear and gain, the experience was an essential time in my life road for chase the ultimate dream. Lastly I want say THANK YOU SO MUCH to professor Tokimatsu and other members.

時松研究室で過ごしたの２年間超では、私は自己成長を目標に努力したことに加え、指導教授と週囲の学生たちから大きな助けをもらいました。ゆえに、日本の社会人として必要な価値観を樹立してきました。また、教科書で学べなかった沢山の知識、能力と教養を、この研究室で身に付きました。

まず、研究室の学習で、私は大量の文化や知識を蓄積する機会を得ていました、こうして仕事の実務にもある程度の準備ができました。研究室では環境エネルギー、ＭＯＴ（マネジメント・オブ・テクノロジー）、理系のための経済学や金融の知識など、多元化の知識を学ぶことができて、全く退屈ではありませんので、私が真剣に勉強に取り組むことができました。そして、私にとって外国語である日本語と英語の面では、授業中や各種学内外の発表などの活動を通じて、リスニング・スピーキング・リーディング、ライティング、翻訳などの能力も訓練されました。  

次に、研究室で日本の先端技術や日本国内外における科学と文化に触れる機会を頂きました。指導教授から紹介頂いた各種学会で、日本製造業における悠久の発展歴史と誇り高きの技術を拝見したことだけではなく、日本技術が世界のトップに立っている理由である強い技術経営ついて研究したこともできました。また、アメリカ短期留学にあたって研究室も資金面で援助して頂きました。これらの日本国内外の交流活動で、日本及び海外における優秀な科学研究者や企業経営者と切磋琢磨したり貴重なチャンスを得ました。  

最後に、最も重要なことは、研究室で皆の学習や研究に対して真面目な態度を感じたことで、自分の性格も洗練されました。こうして将来の職場にも実務に専念することができて、革新の心を持つことができると信じています。指導教授とまわりの学生皆真剣に研究に取り組んでいて、研究で得られた結果に対して色んな面から考察したり、論理的に結果に辿りつく理由を説明しています。そういう風になるために努力した経験は私にとって大きな宝物で、未来の仕事の順調に展開することに繋がっていくかもしれません。  

そしてこの研究室の悪いところをいうと、忙しすぎることです。基本的に外のアルバイトに就くことができないため、必要な生活費などは貸したり、両親からもらっておいたほうがいいと思います。  

２年間超の時松研究室での生活は人生の旅にとっては短いすぎるかもしれませんが、とても充実で、輝いている人生経験だと思います。中にも汗と得物に溢れて、人生の夢を追い掛け続ける道においては必要不可欠な時間でした。時松先生と研究室のみんな、ありがとうございました。  

Tokimatsu sensei's response（教員からのコメント）

I will never forget the strong email I received from Ore starting with [Professor Tokimatsu] when I just took up the position. He is originally from China, studied in Liverpool, and in love with Japan. He drew a punch picture analyzing all lessons and skills that he has acquire during his enrollment. The paper he drew is now one of my precious items. It was my first experiment as teacher, which made an impression on me of value of teaching students. I choose being his supervisor after he successfully passed the entrance exam.

He planned his schedule, classes and his own research according to the calendar. Within a limited time, he managed to study about Actuary of Life Insurance and did the job-hunting activities. He was fortunate of being dispatch to Rochester Institute of Technology and conducted his studies under the supervision of Mr. Mitsutaka Matsumoto. He learned about the Multi regression analysis from his colleague Masataka Maeda and he managed somehow to understand it. He (Including me) thinks he is a pleased with his surrounding environment. Regarding his contribution of the lab’s focused areas, As one method of technical forecasting, he made use of the technical economy and studied deeply about the applicability of technology diffusion. He also used a statistic method to try out the factor analysis.

In his case, because setting a goal and constantly improving and gradually obtain results is a suitable way for him, he managed to move forward and bring out the results. I feel happy. With his optimistic personality and his advanced communication skill he finished with his oral presentation with out asking for an assistance from his supervisor. As a master student, is something deserve to be written about him. Regarding his contribution to the lab, Mastering, Japanese, Chinese and English, and acquiring the Japanese style of communication, and also being in charge of the lab parties… this is extraordinary.

忘れもしない着任直後の春に「時松教授」から始まる強烈な熱意を示すメールを祝さんから頂きました。実際本人にお目にかかり、中国出身でリバプールに留学、大の日本好き、今まで身に着けてきたこと、在籍期間中に身に着けて分析したいこと、将来への展望などを一枚紙にポンチ絵をお持ちになり、それを説明してくれました。そのポンチ絵は私の宝物の1つです。初めての教員経験の私はそれだけで、「この学生さんは育て甲斐がある」と直感しました。無事に試験をパスしたので指導教員をお受けすることにしました。

彼はスケジュールを常に考えてカレンダーとともに、授業、自分の研究、ご自身の夢（生損保のアクチュアリー）の勉強、就活と、限られた時間をやりくりしてきました。彼は幸いなことにロチェスター工科大への短期派遣中に分析技法を当時滞在中の産総研・松本光崇さんの指導のお蔭で身に付け、また同期の前田衛孝さんに重回帰分析なども習って、何とかこなして行きました。彼（私にも）は周囲に恵まれたラッキーボーイだと思います。研究室の研究領域における彼の貢献は、技術予測の1つの手法としての技術経済学のそれ用いて技術の普及への適用可能性を探るとともに、統計学的な手法を用いてその要因分析を試みたことにあります。

彼の場合、目の前に目標を作り、少しずつ改良を加えコツコツと成果を作るのに向いているので、学会発表をペースメーカーとして進め、結果的には1つのまとまった成果らしきものになりました。幸い、彼は持ち前の性格と喋り能力により口頭発表は教員が付き添わずとも全てこなして来ました。これは普通の修士学生にしては特筆に値すると思います。彼の研究室に対する貢献は、研究上だけでなく、日中英を卒なく使いこなし、日本人特有のコミュニケーションも習得し、飲み会の幹事も遂行するなど、幅広でした。
