OHSU KTGF Fellows and Faculty, 2024-2025
The KTGF Fellowship is a great opportunity to gain early exposure and involvement with Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (CAP)!
The KTGF Medical Student Fellowship Program is open to all OHSU medical students of any year who may be interested in exploring the field of child and adolescent psychiatry. Our program is designed to be inclusive and flexible in order to accommodate students’ interests, goals, and schedules, and any medical student with an interest in better understanding youth mental health is encouraged to become a KTGF Fellow.
Opportunities for KTGF Fellows:
Educational opportunities including access to monthly OHSU CAP Grand Rounds and CAP didactics
Structured mentoring that links medical students with OHSU CAP faculty (meet CAP faculty leadership for this program here)
Meaningful exposure to the field through clinical shadowing, research opportunities, and advocacy efforts
Invitations to fun events with CAP fellows and faculty including OHSU CAP Division Book Club and Movie Night
Events specifically designed for KTGF Fellows to learn more about a career in CAP, such as career panels and enrichment week activities
Resources on state-wide and national opportunities for medical students interested in CAP, including free student membership to the Oregon Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (OCCAP) and the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (AACAP)

FAQ:
What is the KTGF?
The KTGF (Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation) is a national organization dedicated to recruiting high quality physicians to the field of child and adolescent psychiatry, funding medical student organizations and young investigators. Read more about the KTGF here.
What is the KTGF Medical Student Fellowship Program?
Since 2002, the Klingenstein Third Generation Foundation (KTGF) has funded a network of medical schools to administer the Klingenstein Medical Student Fellowship Program. This program exposes medical students to children’s mental health research, treatment and advocacy and encourages students to explore careers in child and adolescent psychiatry. Recent research on the program has found it enhances medical student’s knowledge and career perceptions of child and adolescent psychiatry and increases their match rates in general psychiatry residency programs.
What year of medical student is this intended for?
All medical students (MS1 through MS4) are invited to participate on a continuing basis.
What's the commitment?
It's up to you. The primary requirement is having an interest (big or small) in exploring the field of child and adolescent psychiatry and a commitment to participating in one of a range of activities or educational opportunities. We welcome students who join just to be able to attend occasional events or hear about resources, as well as students who are interested in mentorship or pursuing clinical or research opportunities. When you apply, you can let us know what level of involvement you would like. There are two tiers of involvement available:
Associate Fellow: This is intended for students with an interest in child psychiatry who would like to be included in notifications about events and resources, but are not currently interested in doing an independent project.
Senior Fellow: This is intended for students who are interested in a more intensive fellowship experience, including the possibility for mentorship, clinical, or research opportunities, as well as potential leadership opportunities within the KTGF program. Senior Fellows are expected to identify a project to complete by the end of their fellowship. Examples of projects could include a poster presentation at the Oregon Council of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry (OCCAP) annual conference or writing a book review for JAACAP or AACAP News.
