The first season received critical acclaim. USA Today said a "totally original, fabulously enjoyable lost-at-sea series, Lost had taken "an outlandish Saturday-serial setup and imbued it with real characters and honest emotions, without sacrificing any of the old-fashioned fun."[95] The Los Angeles Times praised the production values and said "it knows the buttons it wants to push (fear of flying, fear of abandonment, fear of the unknown) and pushes them, repeatedly, like a kid playing a video game."[96] IGN noted that the first season "succeeded first and foremost in character development."[97] Lost season one was ranked number one in the "Best of 2005 TV Coverage: Critic Top Ten Lists" by Matthew Gilbert of The Boston Globe, Tom Gliatto of People Weekly, Charlie McCollum of the San Jose Mercury News, and Robert Bianco of USA Today.[98]

Named after the fabled lost gold mine, Lost Dutchman State Park is located in the Sonoran Desert, at the base of the Superstition Mountains, only 40 miles east of Phoenix. Several trails lead from the park into the Superstition Mountain Wilderness and surrounding Tonto National Forest. Take a stroll along the Native Plant Trail or hike the challenging Siphon Draw Trail to the top of the Flatiron.

When Peter and I returned to the veterinary hospital to claim Gattino, he purred at the sight of us. When we went back to Santa Maddalena, his little body tensed with recognition when he saw the room we had lived in together; then he relaxed and walked through it as if returning to a lost kingdom. My body relaxed too; I felt safe. I felt as if I had come through a kind of danger, or at least a kind of complex maze, and that I had discovered how to make sense of it.

The family myth was that our father was crazy, compulsive, obsessed with things like bargains on toilet paper or coupons. And he was. It was hard to hear feeling in his words because his voice and his words were habitually agitated, obsessed, so tight that the feeling of them was lost.

10-year-old Starlight was brought into the shelter in mid-March. She was blind, a little timid, and mostly kept to herself. Then, Kammi saw her on social media and couldn't believe it--it was her mom's dog who went missing 5 years ago! She said her mom was inconsolable when she lost "Killa," and she never stopped looking for her. Sadly, her mom passed away two years ago. When Kammi came to the shelter, Killa smelled her and couldn't stop wagging her tail and giving her kisses!

Layla was not microchipped, but luckily her determined mom, Connie, scrolls through social media websites for lost pets every night, hoping Layla pops up. Sure enough, she saw a picture of Layla on our MCACC Field Officers Facebook page.

Even if you live in our service area, we recommend checking all local shelters (see our list of pet agencies) when looking for a lost pet. Stray pets can sometimes travel long distances, and people who find them will generally take them to the nearest shelter.

If you need help unloading your vehicle or need a donation receipt, please ring the doorbell at our front door and a member of our team can assist you. If you have any questions email community@lostourhome.org. Thank you!!

TSA makes every effort to reunite passengers with items left behind at the airport checkpoint. Lost and found items retained by TSA for a minimum of thirty (30) days, and if not claimed, are either destroyed, turned over to a state agency for surplus property, or sold by TSA as excess property. The state may dispose of the items through sales, destruction, donations or charities. The state keeps any money from sales, not TSA. At a number of locations, lost and found items are turned over to the airport at the end of each day.

We also want to be sure your pet is as healthy as possible when they leave the shelter. If he or she already has their rabies vaccination, please send a photo of their rabies certificate or let us know where they got their vaccination so we can verify that. If your pet has not received their rabies vaccination recently, don't worry! We can help you with that before we send them home with you. Finally, if your pet wasn't microchipped, we've taken care of that as well so they can get back home to you as fast as possible should they become lost again in the future.

Due to incidents of a highly contagious respiratory disease affecting dogs in our care, all San Diego Humane Society campuses (including San Diego, El Cajon, Escondido and Oceanside locations) are pausing the intake of owner-surrendered dogs until Jan. 2, 2024, except in emergencies that threaten the health of the pet. We also request that all relinquishments of other species be made by appointment only. Fees for anyone picking up their lost dog from San Diego Humane Society are also waived through Jan. 7, 2024, though applicable licensing fees still apply. Learn more here.
