Katie N. Smith

Welcome! I am an associate professor of higher education in the Department of Policy, Organizational and Leadership Studies at Temple University. Prior to joining Temple in 2023, I served as an assistant professor of higher education at Seton Hall University

As a former career advisor, my research centers on topics related to college student career development, especially issues of equity and the financial, social, and environmental influences on students' career exploration, opportunities, and outcomes. My research often focuses on student subpopulations including women in engineering and computer science, students interested in teaching careers, and first-generation college students.

My research has been featured in a variety of academic- and practitioner-oriented journals, including Educational Researcher, Journal of Career Development, Journal of College Student Development, Journal of Student Affairs Research and Practice, Journal of Student Financial Aid, Computer Science Education, and more. My research has also been funded by the Spencer Foundation, the American College Personnel Association, and Seton Hall University's Research Council.
