2019: Emphatic vowel length in Cebuano. Journal of Philippine Linguistics, 50, 18–32. [pdf].


This paper explored the phonetic lengthening observed in emphatic Cebuano utterances, similar to English and Japanese. Results revealed positive correlation between emphasis levels and phonetic duration but no other significant comparisons across levels of emphasis were found.

This paper investigates the extrinsic motivation factors that drive students to learn English as a second language in the Philippines. It was found that although it might be helpful to promote intrinsic motivation among students, providing opportunities for some types of extrinsic motivation to develop may also help students thrive and succeed in learning ESL.
