I am a social psychologist interested in how emotional experiences are structured and how they influence well-being. I seek to show that emotional expertise (i.e., being “good” at emotions) is not about feeling positive emotions all the time, but about flexibly experiencing and navigating the full range of human emotions. My work leverages longitudinal experience sampling methods, experimental paradigms, and psychophysiological measures along with interdisciplinary collaborations in service of this overarching goal.
I am a postdoctoral researcher at Washington University in St. Louis in the WELLab. I earned my PhD from the University of New Hampshire. When I am not in the lab, I am somewhere in the mountains, backpacking or hiking with my dogs.
I study how the contexts people are in shape their emotional experiences and how the richness and complexity of those emotional experience influence their well-being. Through my studies, I have developed a passion for science communication, mentoring students, and open science practices.
