I have worked as a reading intervention specialist since 2009. My passion is supporting striving readers in schools and raising awareness about dyslexia.
I believe that "all children should learn to read between 8:00 - 3:00." While tutoring is effective and sometimes necessary, most students CAN learn to read at school if they receive the right instruction and intervention.
I have experience as an Response to Intervention (RTI) Teacher, an Intervention Specialist, an Instructional Coach, a trainer and leader of professional development for educators, a private dyslexia tutor, and a volunteer with Decoding Dyslexia California (DDCA) as co-Educator Outreach Manager.
I have 18 years of successful teaching experience that includes building RTI/MTSS frameworks. I excel as an instructional coach, trainer, and PLC facilitator. I am an IDA certified Orton-Gillingham Classroom Educator (OGCE/AOGPE).
I am trained in Orton-Gillingham from Dyslexia Training Institute and AOGPE, and received Structured Literacy training from Literacy How. I am also trained in the Sonday System, Wilson Fundations and Just Words, and S.P.I.R.E. I value and incorporate Structured Word Inquiry which is rooted in etymology and morphology.
I am an active member of The Reading League, Decoding Dyslexia and the International Dyslexia Association.
I am a skilled trainer & presenter who helps educators and administrators better understand the science of teaching reading within Multi Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS/RTI). This helps us build successful frameworks for identifying and responding to reading risk in schools with evidence-based practices.
