The New York Botanical Garden, founded in 1891, is a leading educational institution at the forefront of plant conservation. The garden's Enid A. Haupt Conservatory was built by the Lord and Burnham Co. in the early 1900s. The conservatory's design, which features 11 galleries and a 90-ft. dome, takes inspiration from the Palm House at London's Kew Gardens.
In 2018, the NYBG originated the exhibition Georgia O'Keeffe: Visions of Hawai'i. The show explored the art that O'Keeffe produced during and after her 1939 trip to Hawai'i and current botanical research on the flora of Hawai'i. The exhibits also provided information about the impact of ornamental and agricultural plant introductions on the ecology of the Pacific Islands.
