Kenya's diverse climate supports many plant species. The climate varies from tropical in the port city of Mombasa to temperate in the capital of Nairobi to arid in the north. In Nairobi, potted succulents thrive at the David Sheldrick Wildlife Trust and a lush garden grows at the Nairobi Gallery, and there are many roadside nurseries in the wealthy suburb of Karen, named after the Karen Blixen house. Nevertheless, Kenya's floricultural industry--the major supplier of fresh cut roses to Britain--has elicited criticism for its unfair labor practices and negative impact on the environment.
