Print out the E Lawai'a Flashcards, then use them to play a version of Go Fish!
Print and cut out four sets of flashcards.
Gather your family and deal five cards to each person.
Arrange the rest of the flashcards in the middle of your table face down.
Each player can look at their own cards, but do not show your cards to anyone else.
The goal of the game is to get rid of all the cards in your hand by making pairs. For example, if you have two ‘ama‘ama cards, you put them face up on the table.
If you do not have any pairs, ask one other player if they have one of the cards you want. You might say “Mom, do you have any mahimahi?”
If that player has the card you want, take it and put your new pair down on the table. If they do not, they will say “E Lawai‘a” which means “Go Fish” in Hawaiian. Then you can pick a card from the “ocean” in the middle of the table.
If that card makes a pair for you, put them on the table. If it does not, keep it in your hand and the next player takes their turn.
The first player to run out of cards and make all their matches wins the game!
