Windmark is one of the three protagonists of Troubled Waters. the stone-cold resident horror of the local school, who can be trusted to send everyone a deadly glare. She aspires to be a horror author.
Well, that's who she was, before suddenly waking up in some sort of aquarium, with no memories of who she is. Temporarily going by the nickname Purple, she keeps track of the facts; jotting everything she, Blue (Raintail), & Red (Coalfang), learn in her notebook, in case it's a clue about their pasts.
❤️Personality
Moody, reserved, sarcastic, cold; Windmark is in a perpetual state of scowling & being annoyed. All she ever wants is some peace & quiet, is that really too much to ask for?! But while she is snarky & quick to judge, she prefers to avoid unnecessary conflicts & get things over with; no matter how strong her urge to strangle someone gets. She'll go along with pretty much any situation she's being dragged into, but that doesn't mean she's not going to complain about it.
She cares a lot more than she lets on, often worrying about others' well-being, but is practically allergic to showing it in obvious ways. Her attempts to do so often accidentally come off as blunt, disingenuous, or somehow vaguely threatening- so she usually doesn't bother too much with the niceties. She doesn't even want that sense of empathy in the first place & resents the fact that she can't help but feel some sense of obligation & solidarity with other people; nobody's ever shown they cared about her, so why does she still feel like she has to waste her time showing it to others?
...She's pretty emotionally constipated, never fully processing painful memories or uncomfortable feelings (Both due to never being given the chance to do so & out of her own habit), leading to her being constantly on edge & occasionally lashing out at others. She does regret her actions, but never really apologises- instead bottling her feelings further. She's more lonely & confused about her life than she'd care to admit; but following the recent death of her late mother, doesn't think anyone alive truly cares enough about her to help.
Despite her coldness, she's never cruel. For all her grumbling, she'd never purposefully want to seriously hurt anyone, no matter how many empty threats she makes. But even though she has more potential for showing compassion than everybody thinks, she desperately needs to learn that even just her words can have more of an impact on others than she realises; but she also can't just bottle everything in & refuse to think about it, either. She needs to find the line between lashing out at everybody whenever she feels like it versus properly expressing how she feels.

💛Relationships
Coalfang: ...Complicated. Coal & Wind first met when they were 14, bonding over their shared interests & hobbies, & sort of peer-pressured themselves into dating, before either of them were emotionally mature enough to do so. They never gave themselves time to really know each other as friends, first; instead essentially speedrunning into typical romantic couple things.
As time wore on, however; it became more apparent that their individual personalities just... weren't compatible for each other; like frost & fire. Windmark found Coalfang to be gratingly obnoxious & unfunny, while Coalfang found Windmark to be incredibly stuck-up & hypocritical. They tried putting up with the other for much longer than they should've, becoming slightly codependent, as they both feared being alone. Their relationship tipped over the boiling point when Sunriver drowned trying to save them both during a storm; causing the couple to break up on-the-spot, both blaming each other for her death; when really, it wasn't anyone's fault.
Now, they have an incredibly spiteful rivalry, taking every opportunity to take a mick out of each other. They do miss hanging out with each other & bonding over their interests, though; & their rivalry has sort of spun into a weird begrudging respect. While they'll obviously never be as close as they once were, maybe platonic friendship isn't out of the question.
Raintail: Wind & Rain were introduced to each other through Coalfang, back when Wind & Coal were still dating. While they're not as close, having spent less time with each other, they do appreciate each other's more calm & quiet personalities, meshing together like snow & water. They're kind of vaguely friends? They consider each other as such & go out of their way to talk to each other; but despite the presence of an emotional connection, the way they actually interact with each other is more akin to acquaintance-you-barely-know. There's a huge fundamental layer of misunderstanding between Rain & Wind, due to both them having a shared inability to open up about their feelings & communicate properly.
Wind does actually care about Rain, but also kind of lowkey thinks of him as a blithering nobody- both in the "somewhat endearing, sweet younger friend that's like a kid" way, as well as the "can you go away, you're so genuinely annoying & stupid" way. She doesn't know how to actually voice this, though; so she just falls back on what she usually does when she cares about someone but doesn't want to: tough love. She's as harsh as she always is, though makes an effort to cut back on her snark. ...Not like that's noticeable to Rain, though.
Meanwhile, Rain just does not register the fact that Windmark considers him her friend, wholeheartedly believing that she just straight-up dislikes him. He can't help but care about her, though, even though he believes it isn't returned. He sees through her cold demeanour & just sees another fellow lonely soul; but stays averse from getting too touchy-feely, both out of respect for her boundaries, & because he worries he'd just make the whole situation worse. He never says a word in retaliation to her snark- believing he deserves the insulting, anyway, & being the punching bag for Wind to let out her own feelings seems like the least he could do. (THIS IS NOT HEALTHY FOR EITHER OF THEM. I DO NOT CONDONE THIS)
🔬Random Facts
Author in several horror forums.
Surprisingly, she's really successful in her pursuit of becoming a writer.
Very organised.
Following her mother's death, Wild lives with her grandparent.
Comes up with increasingly bizarre threats as the story goes on. At first she just says stuff like "I'm going to kill you" then later on she ends up saying stuff like "I'm going to blow up the moon and spontaneously invent telekinesis solely so I can redirect the debris to crash into your house."
