DR. KOUSHIK GHOSH

Dr. Koushik Ghosh, born on 25^th June, 1974 in Kolkata, India, is presently attached to the Engineering Section of the University of Burdwan, Burdwan, India (University Institute of Technology) as an Assistant Professor in Mathematics in the Department of General Science and Humanities since September, 2006. Previously he was attached to Dr. B.C. Roy Engineering College, Durgapur, India during October, 2003-August, 2006. He did M.Sc. and M.Phil. in Applied Mathematics from the University of Calcutta, Kolkata, India in the year 1998 and 2000 respectively and obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics (Astrophysics) from the same university in the year 2004. He has been awarded the S.N. Bose Birth Centenary Award (Young Scientist Award) by the Calcutta Mathematical Society. He received the Best Paper Presentation Award in the International Conference On New Trends In Differential Equations And Applied Mathematics (ICNTDEAM - 2021) (virtual mode) organized by Sri Vidya Mandir Arts and Science College (Autonomous), Krishnagiri, India in collaboration with CHRIST (Deemed to be University), Bengaluru, India and Jyothi Engineering College, Thrissur, India during April 12-13, 2021.

Presently he is taking the courses on Vector Algebra and Vector Calculus, Integral Calculus and its Application, Abstract and Linear Algebra, Three Dimensional Geometry, Differential Equations, Probability, Statistics and Stochastic Processes, Discrete Mathematics and Mathematical Modelling in undergraduate programmes and Stochastic Processes, Neural Network and Statistical Signal Processing in postgraduate programmes.

In a nutshell his research areas are i) Stellar and Substellar Astrophysics, ii) Analysis of Time Series and Statistical Signal Processing (Applications in Solar Signals and Financial Time Series), iii) Nonlinear Systems and Dynamics, iv) Mathematical Modelling in Biological Systems, Social and Behavioural Sciences, v) Pattern Recognition.

He has 159 publications in different reputed journals and conference proceedings and he has presented papers or delivered invited talks at around 180 conferences/seminars/workshops inside or outside of India till date.

He is a regular reviewer of different esteemed international journals on Signal Processing, Mathematical Biology, Astrophysics etc. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Bulletin of Engineering and Science and International Journal of Astrophysics and Space Science. Nine candidates already got the Ph.D. award under his supervision and presently one research scholar is working under his guidance for her Ph.D. degree.

He has worked as Joint Convener/Convener at eight International Conferences/Seminars, ten National Seminars/Conferences and in one Workshop (Faculty Development Programme) and worked as a member of the organizing committee at two National Conferences/Seminars and one Pre-Conference Tutorial, one Management Development Programme and two Staff Development Programmes. and worked as the Coordinator of one International Conference.

He is a life member of learned societies like Indian Science Congress Association, Calcutta Mathematical Society, Calcutta Institute of Theoretical Physics, Indian Society of Nonlinear Analysts, Advanced Centre for Nonlinear and Complex Phenomena and Bio Mathematical Society of India. He worked as the Assistant Secretary at the tenure 2012-15 and presently he is the Treasurer of the Calcutta Mathematical Society since 2015; Joint Secretary of Indian Society of Nonlinear Analysts since 2018 and Member of the Executive Council of Advanced Centre for Nonlinear and Complex Phenomena since 2017. Beside his academic activity he served the Institute also as the Nodal Officer of Institutional Reforms under the TEQIP Project, Phase-II (a World Bank initiative).
