If you want a portable, feature-rich on-ear pair for big ears, choose Koss Porta Pro Utility; if you need ten simple headsets for a classroom or group, choose Maeline Bulk Classroom Headphones. The Koss offers a collapsible design, detachable cord system and call controls on its Lightning and USB-C utility cords. Maeline’s case is about outfitting multiple listeners with straightforward 3.5mm wired headphones.
• Koss Porta Pro Utility: A collapsible, single-pair design with an adjustable headband, temporal pads, detachable cord system and an in-line mic and remote on its Lightning and USB-C utility cords. The trade-off: its open-back, on-ear design is not built for noise isolation.
• Maeline Bulk Classroom Headphones: A 10-pack with adjustable headbands, swivel ear cups and a standard 3.5mm connection. The trade-off: there is no microphone or volume control, and the shared 4-foot cord may limit where listeners can sit.
• For individual portable listening and device flexibility: Koss is the more feature-rich option.
• For classrooms, learning stations and other group settings: Maeline’s pack of ten is designed for that job.
• For big ears: Neither sheet gives ear-cup dimensions, so fit cannot be guaranteed from the specifications alone.
The Koss Porta Pro Utility is an on-ear wired headphone built around portability and flexible connections. Its collapsible design and included carrying case make it easier to pack than a fixed, full-size headset. The adjustable headband and temporal pads offer ways to tailor the fit, although the product information does not give ear-cup dimensions. For big ears, that means I would not assume the on-ear fit will suit everyone.
Its detachable cord system is a practical distinction. The listed connections cover 3.5mm, Lightning and USB-C devices, while the Lightning and USB-C Utility cords include an in-line microphone and remote for calls and music controls. The product description also identifies a built-in DAC on the USB-C cord. That gives the Koss more connection options than a basic 3.5mm headset, but buyers should still match the cord to the device they plan to use.
How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.

Maeline’s central advantage is simple: the package includes ten individually packaged headsets in ten different colors. Each has an adjustable headband, swivel ear cup and 4-foot cord with an L-shaped 3.5mm plug. That setup is aimed at classrooms, computer labs, libraries, testing sessions and other places where several people need a basic wired listening option.
The design keeps things uncomplicated. Maeline specifies no microphone or volume control, which may suit quiet learning activities where a headset mic is unnecessary. The soft ear cushions are described as helping reduce sound leakage and outside noise, but that is not the same as active noise cancellation. The sheet also gives no ear-cup dimensions, so it cannot confirm comfort for big ears, especially during long sessions.
I’d choose Maeline when quantity and simple 3.5mm compatibility matter more than individual call features or a collapsible personal design. Its listed connections suit many laptops, Chromebooks and tablets with a 3.5mm jack. I would look elsewhere if every listener needs a microphone, on-headset volume adjustment or a connection that does not use 3.5mm. The pack makes sense for shared use; it is less tailored to someone choosing one personal headset for calls and everyday device switching.
• Best for a multipack classroom setup → Maeline. It includes ten headsets, each individually packaged, with multiple colors that can help distinguish shared units.
• Best for a single portable headset → Koss. Its collapsible design and carrying case are suited to packing one pair for individual use.
• Best for connection flexibility → Koss. The listed utility cords cover 3.5mm, Lightning and USB-C; Maeline uses a 3.5mm plug.
• Best for calls with a compatible cord → Koss. Its Lightning and USB-C utility cords include an in-line microphone and remote. Maeline has no microphone.
• Best for a no-frills listening station → Maeline. Its 4-foot cord, L-shaped 3.5mm plug and lack of mic or volume controls fit basic shared listening tasks.
• Best for reducing distractions from headset controls → Maeline. It has no mic or volume control, though that also means listeners cannot adjust volume on the headset.
• Best for seeking noise cancellation → Neither. The Koss lists no noise control, and Maeline’s soft cushions are described as reducing noise and leakage, not cancelling it electronically.
• Best crystal clear calls on ear headphones for big ears → Koss, with an important caveat. It is the only one of these two with a listed microphone, but the information does not establish call clarity or confirm a big-ear fit.
The differences are less about which one is universally superior and more about what the listening setup needs. Koss is the more adaptable individual headset, especially when the included utility-cord options match the listener’s devices. Maeline is the more practical choice for distributing multiple simple headsets across a group.
Fit is the unresolved issue for either product if big ears are the priority. Both are on-ear, but neither sheet gives ear-cup measurements. Adjustable headbands can help with head fit; they do not tell you how much room the ear cushions provide. I would treat comfort for larger ears as something to verify rather than assume.
For compatibility, check the actual device connection before deciding. A device with a 3.5mm jack can work with either listed wired setup. Koss adds Lightning and USB-C options through its utility cords; Maeline stays with the 3.5mm plug. If a group will share the headphones, Maeline’s ten-unit package is its defining advantage. If one person needs call controls and a case-friendly design, Koss is the more suitable fit on paper.
My Verdict
In my opinion, I’d choose Koss Porta Pro Utility for one person who wants a portable wired headset with more connection options and call controls on its Lightning or USB-C utility cord. For big ears, though, I would verify the fit rather than assume its on-ear design will be comfortable. Maeline is my pick for outfitting a classroom or group, not for an individual who needs headset calls or controls.
Neither is specified as noise-cancelling. The Koss lists no noise control; Maeline’s cushions are described as reducing noise and sound leakage, which is not a claim of active cancellation. Neither product’s ear-cup dimensions are provided.
Which has a microphone for calls?
Koss includes an in-line microphone and remote on its Lightning and USB-C Utility cords. Maeline is listed without a microphone or volume control. The provided specifications do not establish call clarity for either product.
Maeline is designed for shared classroom and learning settings, and its package contains ten individually packaged headsets. Koss is a single portable pair with a detachable cord system, so it is more suited to individual use than equipping a group.
Koss lists Lightning and USB-C utility-cord options as well as 3.5mm connectivity. Maeline is specified with a 3.5mm plug. Check the connection supported by your particular device before choosing; the supplied information does not establish compatibility with every device.
