If you want reliable wired performance with a lightweight, all-day wear design for the office, choose Koss KPH7; if you need wireless freedom, multi-device connectivity, and extended battery life for work, choose Belkin SoundForm Surround.
• Koss KPH7: Offers a classic, ultra-light on-ear design with dynamic drivers for clear sound, but requires a physical cable connection and lacks wireless convenience.
• Belkin SoundForm Surround: Delivers modern Bluetooth 5.4 connectivity, 60-hour battery life, and multipoint pairing, though it is an over-ear model that sits heavier on the head.
• Who each pick is for: The Koss is ideal for users who prioritize portability and a secure, wired fit in a stationary workspace, while the Belkin suits those who switch between devices frequently and demand long-lasting wireless playtime.
The Koss KPH7 is built around a philosophy of simplicity and durability. As a wired, on-ear headphone, it strips away the complexity of batteries and Bluetooth chips to focus entirely on audio delivery through dynamic drivers. The frequency range spans from 20 Hz to 20,000 Hz, ensuring that listeners get the full spectrum of sound without needing external amplification or charging cycles. This makes it a particularly strong candidate for earphones for work scenarios where reliability is paramount and you do not want to worry about a dying battery mid-meeting.
The physical construction relies on a plastic enclosure and an adjustable headband designed to fit securely across any age group. At 16 ounces, this bundle is notably lightweight, which is a significant advantage if you plan to wear them for hours during a shift or a long project. The on-ear placement keeps the ear cups just outside the ear canal, offering a balance between isolation and awareness of your surroundings—a feature often preferred in open office environments or when you need to hear colleagues nearby without taking the headphones off.

However, the trade-off is the lack of wireless capability. With only a 3.5 mm jack for connectivity, you are tethered to your device. If your workflow involves moving between a laptop and a phone constantly, or if you prefer the clean look of no wires, this might feel limiting. Additionally, while the design includes active noise cancellation controls, the primary function here is delivering a deep bass response and wide frequency range through a direct cable connection rather than relying on digital processing. It is best suited for someone who values the "Sound of Koss" legacy and wants a robust, no-fuss tool for daily listening.
The Belkin SoundForm Surround enters the conversation as a modern, wireless solution designed specifically for the hybrid work lifestyle. Its standout feature is the 60-hour average battery life, which effectively eliminates the anxiety of finding a power outlet before the day ends. This longevity is paired with a USB-C charging capability, allowing for rapid top-ups if needed, making it one of the most practical options for usb c charging open ear earbuds for work contexts where you need uninterrupted audio for days at a time.
Connectivity is where this model truly shines for the multitasker. It utilizes Bluetooth 5.4 technology, providing a stable connection up to 33 feet and supporting multipoint pairing. This means you can be connected to your work laptop and personal smartphone simultaneously. You can take a call on the laptop and seamlessly switch back to music on your phone without manually disconnecting and reconnecting. The inclusion of advanced environmental noise cancellation (ENC) in the built-in microphone ensures that your voice comes through clearly even in noisy environments, a critical feature for remote workers attending video conferences.
The physical design shifts to an over-ear form factor with pillowy soft ear cups made of fabric and foam. While this offers superior comfort and immersive sound absorption compared to on-ear models, it does add weight and bulk. The foldable design helps mitigate storage issues, and the adjustable headband accommodates various head sizes. However, the use of recycled materials and the specific build of the outer shell suggests a focus on sustainability and modern aesthetics. This is the choice for professionals who need to travel, commute, or move freely around their home office without being tethered by a cord.
• Best for battery life → Belkin SoundForm Surround: With 60 hours of playtime, it far outlasts any wired option that doesn't rely on an endless power source.
• Best for portability and weight → Koss KPH7: At 16 ounces and an on-ear design, it is lighter and less intrusive for long periods of stationary work.
• Best for multitasking → Belkin SoundForm Surround: Multipoint Bluetooth 5.4 allows seamless switching between two devices, a feature the Koss cannot offer.
• Best for immediate setup → Koss KPH7: Plug in the 3.5 mm cable and go; no pairing codes, no charging, and no latency issues.
• Best for call quality → Belkin SoundForm Surround: Advanced ENC ensures your voice is heard clearly, whereas the Koss relies on standard mic integration if used for calls.
• Best for open-office awareness → Koss KPH7: On-ear design naturally lets more ambient sound in, keeping you connected to your physical environment.
• Best for travel and commuting → Belkin SoundForm Surround: Foldable design and wireless freedom make it easier to pack and use on the go.
• Best for durability and warranty → Koss KPH7: Comes with a limited lifetime warranty, suggesting a different approach to long-term ownership compared to the 2-year limit on the Belkin.
In my opinion, for anyone building a serious setup for work, the Belkin SoundForm Surround is the superior choice. The ability to switch effortlessly between devices and the massive 60-hour battery life solve the most common pain points of modern professional life. While the Koss KPH7 is a solid, lightweight contender with a great sound profile, the constraints of a wired connection and the lack of multipoint connectivity make it less versatile for a dynamic workflow. I would buy the Belkin because its features directly address the needs of a mobile, connected worker, offering a level of convenience that simply cannot be matched by a traditional wired headset.
Both models feature active noise cancellation, but the Belkin SoundForm Surround adds environmental noise cancellation for the microphone, making it better for taking calls in loud environments. The Koss KPH7 provides passive isolation suitable for general background noise reduction.
No, the Koss KPH7 is a wired headphone that draws power directly from your device via the 3.5 mm jack, so there is no battery to charge. The Belkin SoundForm Surround requires charging but offers 60 hours of playback on a single charge.
Comfort depends on preference for on-ear versus over-ear styles. The Koss KPH7 is lighter at 16 ounces and uses an on-ear design, while the Belkin SoundForm Surround uses plush fabric and foam ear cups for an over-ear experience that may be softer but slightly heavier.
Only the Belkin SoundForm Surround supports Bluetooth multipoint, allowing simultaneous connections to two devices. The Koss KPH7 must be physically plugged into one device at a time.
