About
About
First held in the year 2000, the Kearns Fall League started with 56 athletes in one 5th-8th grade division. Until then, water polo in Utah was primarily just the Utah High School League in the spring. The league was originally designed to provide athletes not yet in high school with an opportunity to play. It was essentially a “house league” for a few years but the league grew and other clubs around the valley started practicing at their pool and coming to Kearns for the games. As the league grew, new divisions were added.

This year’s league has 63 teams from 14 clubs in 9 divisions. This involves over 650 athletes and 240 games over ten weeks. There are teams from all over the state, from Logan to St. George. There are league games at several other pools due to the amount of games.

The league has a long tradition of providing an excellent opportunity for games. This is great for athletes to learn the game and have fun, but also for the coaches and referees to learn and improve their skills. The league has especially been a great place for new referees to get their feet wet. Many coaches have also got their start in this league.

From the beginning, the league has stressed sportsmanship and respect for the game. Sportsmanship trophies have been given to each team to select the one person from that team that best demonstrates sportsmanship. More importantly, the trophy provides each coach an opportunity to talk about sportsmanship with their athletes, stressing showing respect for their opponent, the referees, their coaches, and their teammates.
