Feb – Mar 2020 | Vol. XX, Issue I

From the editor:

Notice anything different with this issue of the Round Table Newsletter? As of February 1st, 2020 Tom Odenweller has turned the reins over to me, Michael Kahny, as the editor of this newsletter. Tom has held many positions with our council over the years and he has done a spectacular job with all of them. Join me in thanking him for all his time and committment to, not only the K of C, and Delphos St. Johns, but our wonderful community here in Delphos.

I can't begin to fill his shoes, but I hope to carry on his legacy and keep the lines of communication open with all you members. I have been involved behind the scenes with creating the website and handling our Facebook page, among other things, and it is only natural to incorporate the Round Table newsletter into my responsibilities.

It is my hope that everyone feels welcome to comment and offer advice regarding this newsletter, website, etc.. I can be reached at KofCDelphos@gmail.com and phone/text at 419-405-1179.

The newsletters are sent out to over 250 members of our local KofC council and it is my goal to get it to as many of our members as possible. If you are a member of Delphos Council 1362 and would like your email added to the list please email me at KofCDelphos@gmail.com with your contact information, and I will add you to the list. Never fear about this personal information being shared anywhere else.

Getting the Most as a Knight

In order to get the most from your Knights of Columbus membership, we encourage you to consider advancing and becoming a fourth degree. The first degree teaches us the importance of charity. The Second and Third Degrees expand on this with lessons of unity and fraternity. Once you reach Third Degree you are given full honors of Knighthood and are officially "Knighted". And finally, the Fourth Degree imparts upon us a lesson on the virtues of patriotism. Now, more than ever, we need patriots like you in our community.

Sign up a new member and Nate Ankerman will see that they gets info on becoming a 1st degree. There will be a 2nd and 3rd degree exemplification (or degree ceremony) at Ottawa on Sunday, March 1st. As of now, there will be at least 4 members going from Delphos, and are planning to car pool Meet at the Delphos K of C hall around 8:45am. There will be a fourth degree exemplification in Toledo sometime in mid April. More information on this is coming soon. Please consider this your chance to take the next step in this great organization. Also we ask that you ask your Catholic friends, family and neighbors to consider membership. Contact us at KofCDelphos@gmail.com or Lou Hohman at 419-203-0878 or Nate Ankerman at 419-234-6566.

Local Businesses

The businesses that advertise in this newsletter, help pay the cost of the newsletter. In addition, they are asked to donate to all sorts of fund raising projects. Please do as much business as you can locally. We all benefit.

Our Sympathy

Our sympathy goes out to the family of Daniel Grubenhoff who passed away January 25th in Denton Texas. His obituary states that Dan was a 1970 graduate of Delphos St. John's High School and a member of the Knights of Columbus and is the older brother of our fellow Knight Michael Grubenhoff.

Eternal rest, grant unto him O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

Meetings & Reports ...

K of C Monthly Meetings

If you are looking for a way to get involved, monthly meetings are a good way to find out how.

The regular monthly meetings of the Delphos K of C are held on the 2nd Monday of each month. The business meeting begins at 8:00 PM, and usually concludes around 9:00pm.

Refreshments are provided to those in attendance. When was the last time that you attended a K of C meeting? We need to hear what changes members would like to see happen.

Why not come to a meeting and let others know how you feel we could improve what we do or how we do it. Will you get “roped” into working? Nobody will twist your arm.

In order for your K of C Council to continue to do the good things we do, volunteers are needed. We need more members to step up and help out. Everyone is busy but we all find time to do the things that are important to us. Hopefully the Delphos K of C is important to you too.

Help is needed at the Delphos K of C. We have several Officer positions that need filled and need help running projects. It doesn’t have to be year around or time consuming. Possibly one evening a month or less. For more information, contact me, Bernie Fiedler at (419)605-2345, come to the hall any Thursday evening, better yet, come to a regular monthly meeting that usually lasts about an hour, starting at 8:00 PM, on the Second Monday of each month. Your help will make a difference.

Prayer for Christians at Risk

O God of all the nations, the One God who is and was and always will be. In your providence you willed that your Church be united to the suffering of Your Son. Look with mercy on your servants who are persecuted for their faith in You. Grant them perseverance and courage to be worthy imitators of Christ. Bring Your wisdom upon leaders of nations to work for peace among all peoples. May Your spirit open conversion for those who contradict Your will, that we may live in harmony. Give us the grace to be united in truth and freedom, and to always seek your will in our lives. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

We pray that God will protect you and all who so valiently serve our great country. Lord Jesus, we pray that You will keep all who fight the spread of terrorism safe from spiritual and physical harm, and that soon no service men and women will need to be in harms way. Give courage and strength to the families and friends who worry, fear, and pray for these loved ones far from home. We ask this in the name of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

Staying Healthy

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) says that the most important thing all of us can do to stay healthy is to wash our hands, thoroughly and often. They also recommend regular soap, not antibacterial soap. They claim that antibacterial soap contributes to antibiotic resistance and is more expensive. Also, get enough sleep and control stress!

Hall for Rent

Do you have a wedding to plan, or a graduation party, Christmas party, rehearsal dinner, or an event of any kind? Why not consider the K of C Hall for your special event? Our hall can accommodate small, medium, or large groups of people. You can rent the front part of the hall for gatherings of up to 100 people, or the entire hall for large groups. If you rent the front part for smaller gatherings, you can get the food from us, carry it in, or get your own caterer. Because of our liquor license, it is illegal for anyone to carry alcoholic beverages of any kind into the hall, so we cannot allow that to happen. However, we have custom catering, full bar services, a bright, clean, user friendly, handicap accessible facility. It can be decorated to satisfy the most exquisite tastes, or used "as is' for a worry free event. If you have questions, please contact Tom Eilerman at 419-692-0701, or Mike Grubenhoff at 419-615-2445. They will be glad to answer any questions or set up an appointment to talk about your plans.

Pray to End Abortion

Lord God, I thank you today for the gift of my life, and for the lives of all my brothers and sisters. I know there is nothing that destroys more life than abortion, yet I rejoice that you have conquered death by the Resurrection of Your Son.

I am ready to do my part in ending abortion. Today I commit myself never to be silent, never to be passive, never to be forgetful of the unborn. I commit myself to be active in the Pro-Life movement, and to never stop defending life until all my brothers and sisters are protected, and our nation once again becomes a nation with liberty and justice not just for some, but for all, through Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen
