Knight Writer August 2018
Grand Knight Report
I hope everyone is having a great summer. I would like to thank the Officers who helped serve the Council this past year. I look forward to working with the Council this coming year and working with Brother Knights in our activities, thank you.
The fish fry committee met on June 27 and made a few adjustments to pricing. Meals-To-Go will increase by a quarter to $9.50. All-Fish dinner increases a dollar to $16. The All-Fish Special including 2 pounds of fish plus 3 side dishes will increase to $22. No change to the Eat-In meals at $10 and no change to the official menu. We will have breaded chicken strips this year (until Lent) which will be easier to prepare compared to the chicken breasts. At the Council Meeting the members voted to have 16 fish frys this coming season. The first fish fry is on October 19 and the last on Good Friday is April 19, 2019. I would like to thank the committee for their leadership in this worthwhile event.
For our Brother Knights who are golfers, Bryan Council 1915 is sponsoring the District 57 2018 Golf Outing on Saturday September 29, at the Riverside Greens in Stryker, Ohio. They will have a 9:00 a.m. registration, with a 10:00 a.m. shotgun start. The advance registration is $50 per person or $95 per 2 person team. On the day of the event the cost will be $55 person or $100 per 2 person team. The event includes 18 holes, cart for 2, lunch with a meal following. Door prizes, hole prizes and winning team prize will be awarded. Please contact Jeff Burkholder at 567-239-1106 email@example.com. This event is a good way to have fellowship with other Brother Knights.
The Senior Christmas Dinner Committee met recently. The members include Jim Timbrook, Charlie Bakle, Jr., Sean O’Donnell, and Rex Eutsler. In lieu of having a sit down dinner they are recommending having meals delivered to those who are unable to get out for a Christmas meal. They are checking with the local parishes and organizations to collect names of those people. The list of previous years of Senior Dinner home delivery meals will be considered also. The plan is to have a team of two members for each visit. They will deliver the meal and visit with the person(s) and wish them a Merry Christmas. The date for this event would be Sunday, December 16, 2018. Our plan is to combine this event with the K of C Member Family Christmas Party to be held around 1:00 pm that same day. We would take advance reservations for the party, and it would be a potluck with Council providing the meat.
August is the month we celebrate the birth of Father Michael McGivney, August 12, 1852. He was born to Irish immigrant parents, Patrick and Mary (Lynch) McGivney. He was the eldest of 13 children, six of whom died in infancy or childhood. His father worked as a molder in a Waterbury, Connecticut brass mill. Michael attended the local Waterbury district school but left at 13 to work in the spoon-making department of the brass mills. In 1868 at the age of 16, he entered the Seminaire de Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec, Canada. He continued his studies at Our Lady of Angels Seminary, near Niagara Falls, New York (1871-1872) and at the Jesuits’ St. Mary’s College, in Montreal, Quebec. He had to leave the seminary, returning home, to help finish raising his siblings after the death of his father, in June 1873. McGivney later resumed his studies at St. Mary’s Seminary, in Baltimore, Maryland; he was ordained a priest on December 22, 1877, by Archbishop James Gibbons at the Baltimore Cathedral of the Assumption.

Quote from Pope Francis
“We cannot forget that evangelization is first and foremost about preaching the Gospel to those who do not know Jesus Christ…. Many of these are quietly seeking God, led by a yearning to see his face, even in countries of ancient Christian tradition. All of them have a right to receive the Gospel. Christians have the duty to proclaim the Gospel without excluding anyone.” (Joy of the Gospel)
Total Consecration to Jesus through Mary
Jesus Christ, truly God and truly man, Redeemer of the universe, the Child born of Mary, the God-man who hung on the cross, the Savior raised from the dead, that Jesus is the Jesus who, right now, is dwelling in the depths of your soul…upon the simple condition that you love Him! “Jesus in You” Dr. Mark Miravalle
