He passed away at 64 years old due to a protracted illness. Jude is survived and missed by his loving wife Stella and five children Elizabeth-Mary, Jude-Anthony, John-Paul, Mary-Stella, and Mary-Clare. His memory lives on through the impact he has had on both the Austin and Nigerian communities. He was most known for his noble character, generosity, and integrity.
Jude Ekpe was born in Coal Camp, Enugu State, Nigeria on February 13th, 1958 to Late Honorable John and Okenne Mary-Theresa Ekpe. During his early years in Nigeria, Jude attended St. Patrick’s Primary School and Colliery Secondary School. A devout Catholic, Jude grew up in the midst of priests and bishops as a mass server.
Music was something else that Jude had a passion for. During his young adulthood, Jude formed a band group called Scream Highways, which he was invested in until he left Nigeria. In 1982, Jude came to the United States to continue his education at University of Texas-Tyler. He received his degree in Political Science and Pre-Law, to appease his father who had wanted him to become a lawyer. After graduating, he quickly assumed various management positions in the food and hospitality industries and shortly after, became a sales consultant. He continued this job for 25 years before the onset of his illness.
Jude was an active resident of Pflugerville, Texas for over 30 years. A philanthropist, Jude did not hesistate to lend a helping hand to anyone who was in need. During times of group interactions, Jude was known to light up the room with his bright personality and admirable character, drawing positive attention from everyone. He had strong moral values and was greatly appreciated for his services. He was a leader and active in organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Catholic Prayer Ministry, Austin Committee of Friends, Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (Austin Chapter).
Jude’s legacy will carry on forever reminding us to be the best version of ourselves and to live a life full of meaningful acts of love and service, like Christ did for us. There are no words that can express how blessed and grateful we are to all individuals who have supported, contributed to, and prayed for Jude during his life. We are looking forward to more prayers and good wishes towards Jude and his family. May his soul rest in perfect peace! Amen
