Arthur M. Brown

Arthur Mapes Brown died peacefully in his sleep in Austin, TX on July 24, 2013, at the age of 87.

Born in Corpus Christi and raised in San Antonio, TX, Art attended Central Catholic High School. After graduation, he went on to serve in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War, and honed his legendary poker skills along the way. He married the love of his life, Loretta, in 1950, and went on to have two sons and five daughters, raised in Austin, TX. Art was a successful realtor for over 50 years, starting with NPC and ending his career with JB Goodwin at the age of 80. He was a devout Catholic, and loved singing in the church choir and serving in the Knights of Columbus. Art was also an avid card-player, sharp dresser, and enthusiastic sports fan.

A beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, Art is survived by his wife of 63 years, Loretta Eyhorn Brown, and his seven children: Terry Bruegging and husband Mike, Earl Brown, Paul Brown, Robin Evans and husband Jim, Donna Miller and husband Rodger, Julie Beach and husband Paul, Marcy Bethke and husband David. His twelve grandchildren include Michelle Sage, Ryan Bruegging, Amanda Bruegging, Shanna Grote, Lacey McCabe, Chris Evans, Clint Evans, Cameron Miller, Jenna Miller, Skylar Beach, Makayla Beach, and Emma Bethke; as well as six great-grandchildren who all love their Papa. Art also leaves behind the cherished younger siblings he grew up with, J.A. “Biddie” Brown, and Mary Jane Brown Schneider; as well as the dear siblings he was blessed to welcome into his family later in life, Patsy, Mary Ester, Rudy, and Armando Caceres, and their spouses.
