This blog will document my progress throughout the KNB227 CGI Technologies unit. This unit focuses on experimenting with emerging forms of production, and explores the theoretical context and the techniques of these new filmmaking methods; building upon the introduction of real-time technologies in KNB137 - Digital Worlds.
The unit focus will be undertaken through the development of a real-time 3D project over the course of the semester. The brief for the project is as follows:
"Your team is required to create a music video with a focus on a single human dancer whose body transitions through various abstract looks/forms over the course of the music video. These transitions should take place either through the use of cinematography techniques (close-ups) and/or the use of environmental elements. The environment should present a believable location however shouldn’t be distracting to the main focus of the dancer. Your and your team have creative freedom (with respect to the limitations/requirements listed below) to respond to the themes presented in the movement and music. "
The base idea for the project has been drawn from the music video for "Wide Open", by the Chemical Brothers from the album Born in the Echoes, 2015.
This project will be split into two assessment pieces. The first will be focused on developing a proposal for the project detailing a concept for both an abstract metahuman body along with an environment that it will be contained within; both will also have a proof of concept developed to demonstrate an understanding of the motion capture and real-time workflows. The second will be focused on developing a full music video in a production team, where each member must develop a defined segment of a music video featuring the metahuman morphing between the different abstract forms developed by team members in assessment one as a way of showing a further understanding of the motion capture workflow, as well as the real-time animation workflow.
