OdoBuddy - Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

This Privacy Policy describes how OdoBuddy ("the app"), developed by Heimdall Studio ("we", "us" or "our"), processes and protects personal data when you use the app.

OdoBuddy is designed to store your trip data locally on your own device. Heimdall Studio does not operate servers that store your personal trip history.

2. Personal data processed by the app

The app processes only the data necessary to provide its functionality. Depending on the features you use, this may include:

Trip data, such as start and end locations
Distance and route information
Date and time of trips
Notes entered by the user
Photos linked to trips, if this feature is used
Location data

This data is either entered directly by the user or generated automatically through use of the app.

3. Local storage of your data

Trip data, recorded routes, notes, linked photos and app settings are stored locally on your own device by default.

Heimdall Studio does not operate servers that store your trip history and does not automatically upload your personal trip data to its own servers or cloud storage.

You remain in control of your locally stored data and can manage or delete it through the app.

When you use an export or sharing function, you decide where the exported file is saved or with whom it is shared. After export, the file may be processed by the selected storage provider, sharing service or receiving application according to its own privacy policy.

4. Purpose and legal basis for processing

We process personal data for the following purposes:

Providing and maintaining the functionality of the app
Recording and displaying trip information
Enabling automatic trip detection
Enabling export functions, such as PDF or CSV export

The legal bases for processing are:

Performance of a contract, where processing is necessary to provide the requested app functionality
Consent or device permission, where required, for example when accessing location data

We do not use personal data for marketing purposes.

5. Sharing of data

Heimdall Studio does not receive, sell or trade your locally stored trip history.

The app does not automatically upload your trip data to servers operated by Heimdall Studio.

The app may use external services, such as map providers, address lookup services or Google Play. These services may independently process limited technical data or requests needed to provide their functionality, according to their own privacy policies.

Data may also leave the app when you deliberately use an export or sharing function.

6. Use of map services

The app uses map functionality through MapLibre, an open-source mapping library.

To display maps, the app may retrieve map tiles, styles or related resources from external map providers through the internet. These providers may process technical information such as your IP address, device information and the requested map area.

The app may also use an external or device-provided address lookup service to convert coordinates into readable location names. Such a service may process the coordinates submitted for that lookup.

These external providers may have their own privacy policies. Heimdall Studio does not control their independent data processing.

7. Other external services

The app may use services provided by Google Play for app distribution, purchases, subscriptions and licence verification.

Google may process technical, account, purchase or device information in accordance with Google's own terms and privacy policy.

Heimdall Studio does not receive your credit card details or full billing information.

8. Use of location data

The app requests location permission through the device's operating system.

Location data is used to record routes, calculate distances, display your position and, depending on your settings, support automatic trip recording while the app is running in the background.

Recorded trip routes are stored locally on the device and are not uploaded to servers operated by Heimdall Studio.

External map or address lookup services may process limited requests when their functionality is used, as described in this Privacy Policy.

9. Payments and subscriptions

The app may offer subscriptions via Google Play.

All payments are processed by Google. Heimdall Studio does not have access to payment data such as credit card information or billing details. For purchases and subscriptions, Google Play’s terms and privacy policy apply.

10. International data transfers

Heimdall Studio does not transfer your locally stored trip history to its own external servers.

Independent processing by external services, such as map providers, address lookup services or Google Play, may take place outside your country or region. Any such processing is governed by the respective provider's privacy policy and applicable safeguards.

11. Retention period

Locally stored data remains on your device until you delete it through the app, clear the app's storage or remove the app from your device, subject to your device's own backup and restore settings.

Heimdall Studio does not determine a server-side retention period for your trip history because this data is not stored on servers operated by Heimdall Studio.

12. Obligation to provide data

Providing personal data is not legally required.

However, certain data are necessary for the app to function properly. Without these data, some features may not be available.

13. Automated decision-making

We do not use automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

14. Source of data

All personal data is either entered directly by the user or generated automatically through use of the app (for example, location data). We do not obtain data from third parties or public sources.

15. Your rights

Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have the following rights:

Right of access
Right to rectification
Right to erasure
Right to object
Right to data portability

Because your trip data is stored locally and is not held by Heimdall Studio, you can normally access, correct, export and delete it yourself through the app. Heimdall Studio may be unable to retrieve or restore locally stored data on your behalf.

16. Withdrawal of consent

Where processing is based on consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time. This does not affect the lawfulness of processing prior to withdrawal.

17. Complaints

If you believe your privacy rights have been violated, you have the right to lodge a complaint with a competent supervisory authority in your country or region.

18. Applicable legislation

We process personal data in accordance with applicable privacy laws, including – where applicable – the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other relevant regulations.

19. Security

We take reasonable technical measures within the app to help protect locally stored data against unauthorized access, loss or misuse.

The security of locally stored data also depends on the security of your device. You are responsible for protecting your device with appropriate measures, such as a screen lock, password or biometric authentication.

Because Heimdall Studio does not store your trip history on its own servers, we may be unable to recover data that is deleted, lost or no longer accessible on your device.

20. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most recent version is always available within the app or on our website.
