History of the Department
The journey of the Department of Sociology was started in the year 2001 as an elective subject of B.A. General Course with an intake capacity of 150 students. Academically our students have consistently performed well & the Department of Sociology is known for its good record. The medium of language used to teach students are both in Bengali as well as in English. The departmental library has topic related sociology text & reference books and is few stocked for catering to the needs of the students in both Bengali and English.
Though the department presently has only one full time faculty but sincere efforts by the faculty fulfil the need of the students as far as possible for understanding of the subject and intellectual development of the students. The department encourages student-teacher interaction in subject related and career development related.
Studying Sociology opens up opportunities for students to work in diversified fields ranging from teaching in schools, colleges and universities, to actively engage in positive social change through working in different NGOs, it also opens up opportunities for one to work in Human Resource areas of rural & urban in both large and small-scale industries, etc.

Departmental Vision:
Vision of the Department is to train up the students of economically backward areas and first learners to face the challenges and to produce a generation of quality citizens with all morality.
Departmental Mission:
To develop logical thinking, spread knowledge among students and initiate maximum number of students to undergraduate in sociology and achieve success with all categories irrespective of their intellectual capability.
