Doc N' DJ Duel

Doc N’ DJ Duel is a mod for the viral rhythm game, Friday Night Funkin’. While the game is used as a base inspiration for the project, it is necessary to design the characters, story, coding, charting, backgrounds, soundtrack, and key visuals from scratch. This project contains all of the necessary assets for a complete mod except for dialog, however, I do not have the necessary coding skills to make this possible. Still, I wanted to showcase and archive all of the assets I created for the mod, and perhaps one day, I will be able to revisit this project and finally release the mod publically.

Characters

Doctor Raiju

Doctor Angelica Raiju (not licensed) is the mascot of the Kizumine brand. She performs sketchy practices and is the elusive manager of DJ S8nt and the Ouloids. Doctor Raiju gains her powers from the legendary Raiju and wants to rule the world with sick beats. There is nothing she hates more than being interrupted.

Saint

William "Saint" Hallis is an up-and-coming indie musician. His preferred genre is techno music with an EDM twist. He signed a contract with Doctor Raiju to get his name out there for his music to reach wider audiences. However, he is starting to feel more than admiration for his manager...can he blow her away with his funky tunes?

Emulating The 'Friday Night Funkin' Animation Style

Friday Night Funkin' is animated using Adobe Animate. The visuals are 2D and use a combination of hand-drawn frames and rigging, and shading is minimal, only using cel-shading. To recreate these stylistic choices, I had to simplify my designs, and then add a color scheme using bright, contrasting colors. The Background uses a much more natural palette in most places except for the sky, which is neon indigo.
