Interactive practices and student engagement

Starting from students' interests and questions

These interactive slides were part of a guest lecture I gave in a qualitative research methods class. I began the class with this activity in which students share what most excites them about qualitative research (first slide) and what questions they have about qualitative research (slide 2). By starting from this feedback, I could tailor my approach to the lesson to student interest and needs. Throughout the class session, I returned to these comments and questions.

Interactive slides and active learning

When I design lessons for a class or workshop, I incorporate interactive aspects throughout the lesson to break up content and allow learners to process and apply ideas and skills. I typically design a set of "activity slides" that accompany my main teaching materials through which learners engage active learning activities. The slides featured below are activity slides that accompany a workshop I have designed on using Twitter for academic purposes.
