Bates (2022) discusses technology and computing in learning to great extents in Teaching in a Digital Age. Just a few of the benefits that Computer-Assisted Instruction (CAI) can provide to students are:
It can combine the uses of text, audio, and video for a more rounded, dynamic learning experience
Students can choose when and where to access materials and engage in their learning, and can even revisit what they need to as many times as they like
It can speed up the process of giving and receiving feedback on progress
In my specific case, being able to watch a video that concurrently showed me where to apply filters, how to use them, and how manipulating them affected sound was a huge benefit in speeding up the process of understanding and comprehending REAPER. I can compare this experience to reading about computer matrices in my undergrad and how they would be theoretically made without ever being given the chance to operate within one (or make one)—I don't remember a thing.
I highly recommend this software for audio editing! At least for me, the user interface was very easy to learn and get used to. In recognize that I probably have an advantage getting started with this, as the software has parallels to video editing software.
I am impressed with what I was able to create, not having musical skills or any knowledge of audio to start with. If you like to play an instrument, record yourself playing something, then play around with audio effects to see how you can elevate your sound. If you ever record voice over or podcast content, this is a quick and easy way to give your content a professional edge. It is accessible for quick, easy edits, or can allow for granularity and detail for more involved audio projects. Like I mentioned, my friends published a whole album using this software, and it sounds amazing! Additionally, REAPER comes with many easy-to-understand video tutorials on how and when to use certain plugins and tools, leaving you in excellent hands to learn the software thoroughly, no matter your ability level and familiarity with audio.
