We know you love our Xmas postcards, so here we are again!
Welcome back, we love you! xo
2024 started off with a lot of lying around under the aircon and eating cheese and a visit up to Buronga to see Sue and Steve (Kate's mum and her husband). Georgie lived her dream of walking 4 dogs at once, as well as her nightmare of needing to overtake on a tiny rural road. Country girl she is not.
We've been slowly working on the unit - we both have big ideas and then a lack of follow through haha. Apologies to our neighbours who have been looking at the cardboard on our nature strip since February! We have grand plans of killing off the grass and planting herbs, flowers, and native plants. Also, we finally painted the back fence and hopefully next time you come around will have a nice little outdoor area to read and chill in! Kate has done a fantastic job with the front garden and there are lots of herbs, flowers, and a passionfruit vine!
There were some big moves in our careers in 2024. G was super burnt out from work at the start of the year and wanted to leave teaching, so she made the decision to move schools at the end of Term 1 to see if it was teaching in general that was making her sad, or if it was just time to move to another school. She now has a permanent job working at a private all-girls school and has found her love for teaching again. To quote Georgie "They'll have to wheel me out, I will die here". She's teaching the subject she loves with great people, and even with the commute and stricter dress code she's so much happier!
Kate went on her first work trip this year to Adelaide! Her past experience in events is very useful in her current job, and she likes to flex those event muscles! She has had quite a stressful year with restructures etc. but has great mates at work and brings the dogs in whenever she's at the office, which helps destress everyone! She also won a Wellbeing Award for always helping out others and being a super kind and approachable person - are we surprised? ❤️
Our four animals (lol, who gave us permission to own a zoo) are all going well, although Lola was very sick in April which was super worrying - when this beautiful fat queen doesn't eat her dinner you know she's unwell. We sent donuts to the pet hospital to say thank you, vets and vet nurses truly are angels. Old Man Paddy is now a little gummy shark, with 8 teeth taken out! Winnie has wormed her way onto the bed during the night, but she's so damn cute and confident now we (Georgie) can't say no. Buffy has grown out of barking at waves, is still barking at the postman and has gotten even lazier, she truly is a vibe. We have to tip her out of the crate for breakfast!
We didn't get away with no illnesses this year unfortunately - Kate has been fit as a fiddle, but Georgie ended up getting diagnosed with another chronic illness in June, got a parasite and was super ill before our wedding in October (great timing!!), and just for fun tripped on a step and broke two bones in her wrist at work in November 😂 . Some would say unlucky, we would say talented ?
We went to two of our best friends' weddings this year, which were amazing and made us even more excited for ours - how incredible is love? As we get older, we're feeling really lucky with the chosen family we have around us and try to never take it for granted. We've been trying to do more new things, so went on lots of day trips and activities and tried to pursue our own hobbies. A highlight was a break room where you smash crockery to the music of your choice - highly recommend! We also went to Bendigo for the Wool Show, and all over Melbourne to different markets and opshops!
Most importantly, in 2024 we discovered Chappell Roan, and have had her most recent album on repeat in our house since April. Kate learnt how to crochet, beaded her own wedding dress (crafty queen), and has gone full Nonna making limoncello. Georgie has leaned into her nerdy side completely and has started playing video games and DnD. Shout out to Rose for creating a monster! 🎮
Kate hit 50 blood donations this year, which is incredible and a milestone she's really proud of! Georgie is working on her diabetes management so hopefully she can go with her in 2025 to donate for the first time.
The highlight of our year was our wedding. Ironically, we chose the date so "it wouldn't be too hot" and the 5th of October 2024 was full of tropical storms and humidity 😂😂
We had the most incredible day, despite the weather and last-minute hiccups. We went and had breakfast at Tinker, the cafe where we had our first date, and Kate made Georgie a book with screenshots from their Hinge conversations! The morning was spent with our unofficial bridesmaids (we love you Steph, Hannah, Isabelle, Hooty, and Aaron!), and the afternoon getting photos under storm clouds and in cafes. Turning the corner into Stray Neighbour at 5pm and walking through the huge roar of love from our people was the most incredible feeling we will never forget!
The dance floor went off all night, and our favourite podcasters Toni and Ryan popped in for a boogie, which made the night feel surreal and was such an amazing surprise. It turned out just like we wanted - an awesome party where we happened to get married 💕Georgie has been finding any excuse to say "My wife" since the wedding, and won't stop. Her wife is very proud.
Thank you for reading, we adore you! We hope that your 2025 is full of joy, new experiences, yummy food, and love.
