講演タイトル: ‘We-Self’: The Cultural Shaping of Indian Psyche
要旨: Psychoanalysts and cultural psychologists in India suggest that living in multi-generational households, experiencing cultural diversity, and adhering to a collectivist culture contribute to an interdependent mindset among Indians. The traditional lifestyle has recently transitioned significantly due to globalization and urbanization. Nevertheless, they have affected the communal sentiments and emotions of Indians. This talk will explore how the Indian way of life fosters a sense of bonding and collective identity. I will present two contexts from my research to illustrate this. The first research examines how traditional Indian child- rearing practices contribute to developing a collective “we-self.” The second explores how this strong sense of community mitigates the negative consequences of economic crises and natural disasters in rural India. The focus here is on farmers and peasants. The discussion can focus more on India and Japan’s cultural similarities/differences in shaping the psyche.
