Use the screen brightness keys on the keyboard to adjust your laptop's screen brightness. Alternatively, go to the Windows Action Center on the taskbar and move the Brightness slider. You can also go to Settings > System > Display > Brightness and color.

If I then press the light button on the top right, only the logo lights up. If I press again the logo turns off and the keys light up. Press again and eveything is off again. I want all the keys and the logo lighting up.

Since Ive baught this laptop ive been trying to find a way to turn the keyboard light on but I never could seem to find a way. Does anyone know how I can turn on the light? this is a HP Pavilion x360 laptop.

When i baught the laptop I was told this laptop has a backlight. But now Im not so sure since you stated that not all pavilion laptops have a backlight. But if you know if my laptop has a backlight or not please let me know.

This was because the other one had much better specs than the previous one, which i dont regret. However, i didnt know that between the variants would be models that didnt have a backlit keyboards. Even the keyboards seem to be of different materials, with the newer one being made of some kind of rough plastic rather than an aluminium-like alloy which the first one had.

I doubt the changes between the variants could be so big that it wouldnt be possible to swap out to a backlit keyboard, so i thought of asking here before contacting customerservice or any of that kind(why dont they have a mailing system, i wonder).

When ever i boot up TTW my keyboard's lights will turn off. IM not a guy that remembers every key location but when i gotta look down real quick and see nothing but black keys (my room isnt well lit) it kinda sucks.

The easiest way to determine whether your computer is equipped with a backlit keyboard is to look at the F10, F6, or right arrow key (located in the lower right corner). If none of these keys have the illumination icon printed on it, your computer does not have a backlit keyboard.

Select your computer model from the Table of Contents and follow the instructions for updating the BIOS and changing the settings on the keyboard backlight. Your backlit keyboard may have options other than off (disabled), dim, or bright.

Need to see your keyboard in the dark? Turn on the backlight on your Windows or Mac computer. If supported, you can enable the light using a keyboard shortcut, a built-in app, or your keyboard's dedicated app. We'll show you your options.

The key you use to activate your keyboard's backlight depends on your device manufacturer. However, the most commonly used keys are F5, F9, and F11. If pressing these keys doesn't light up your keyboard, press and hold down the Fn key and then press those keys.

If you don't see the "Keyboard Brightness" section, your keyboard probably doesn't support the feature. In this case, you can try your keyboard manufacturer's app (if they have one) to see if that allows you to turn on the backlight.

In addition to that, your Mac has an intelligent feature that can automatically adjust your keyboard's backlight. To enable it, head into Apple Menu > System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard and toggle on the "Adjust Keyboard Brightness in Low Light" option.

Not all keyboards are backlit. If pressing a keyboard shortcut or selecting the backlight option in an app doesn't light up your keyboard, your device isn't supported. It's also possible the backlight is simply broken.

In either case, your best option is to get an external keyboard lamp. There are many to choose from, but the BenQ Screenbar Plus has great reviews and comes with an adjustable dial so you can type with the perfect amount of light wherever you go.

After installing Win 10, my Samsung Series 7 backlit keyboard won't light up. Fn+F2/F3 won't work and neither will Fn+F1 for Samsung settings. I tried installing the Samsung software controlling this Easy Settings but it isn't supported in Win 10. No drivers available from Samsung, either. Is there a way to light it up?

Unfortunately, the backlit settings could only be used through easy settings, a Samsung application which isn't compatible with Windows 10, so it means no, Windows 10 renders the backlit keyboard useless and there's no way around it unless you downgrade back to Windows 7 and install easy settings.

I succeded with this advice - it seems that Windows 10 recognize Samsung's built-in keyboard as Lenovo keybaord and then the backlighting starts working only sometimes. Reinstalling it as generic keyboard should fix the problem.

I just freshly installed Arch on new Asus Zephyrus M16. Everything works flawlessly except the keyboard backlight control (under Gnome).

The keyboard shortcuts for controlling the backlight work (OSD in Gnome shows when pressing the shortcuts; there's no brightness level slider, only OSD with an icon).

I have asusctl installed and have also tried their linux-g14 kernel.

Hi @stoppos, thanks for the suggestion. As I stated in my initial post third party helpers (such as asus-kbd-backlight and rogauracore) do work. That's why it's strange to me that it doesn't work out of the box, since the hardware is obviously functional and the correct modules are loaded.

To me everything points to some kind of a bug (maybe in Gnome settings daemon, since gsd_power_backlight_abs_to_percentage throws and error in journal).

That's why I wanted to check if anyone had some prior experiences with this.

Sorry, it seems I didn't read your post properly. Anyhow, for me just by installing asusctl, the keyboard lighting never worked on ASUS ROG STRIX G732LXS. Only when I additionally installed rogauracore.

One issue I can't solve yet - the keyboard backlighting does not work. I have run Samsung Updates and installed all app updates offered. Also Windows Updates. The PC is now as updated as it can be! Yet pressing Fn+F9 does not produce any backlight. It does cycle through the illumination percentage options as per the popup on the screen, so the functionality is good.

It does work, but does not come on until you are in almost total darkness. Well AFTER the point you need it to see the keys. This is a calibration issue with the light sensor vs on-command. The backlighting is also incredibly weak even on its brightest setting, I hope that is also just a software issue.

I saw that Reddit post when I was researching the problem. Some of the reviews I've read in tech media mention the feeble backlighting so others are noticing it. But I guess no one else has pressed Samsung about it. I wrote a review in early Jan ( -galaxy-book-s-intel-review-laptop-winner/) and mentioned this issue. I said then that it's very disappointing but not a show stopper for me. Still, it made me deduct one star from my overall rating.

The fuse on the motherboard was toast. Could it be my problem ? The problem is that I don't know if the last user spilled water on the computer and I can't reach him to ask either! If the problem is the hardware, is there a app to find out what part is the problem: the LED light, the fuse, the cable ???

Also take the time to check the battery tester ribbon cable and connector which is the next step here in the guide. Unlike the backlight connection this is a plug-in. After unplugging it try see if a slightly moistened cotton swab (Q-Tip) with a high grade isopropyl alcohol (85% or better) around the test button. Let it dry and then reconnect the connector. Once you get things back together see if the battery tester works if not you'll need to replace it. To get to it you'll need to take the battery out. Here's a image of the 15" model which is the same Battery tester

Getting back to the keyboard backlight if the ribbon cable is not damaged and the connector block is likewise not damaged you'll need to live without it or get someone to fix the logic board it shouldn't cost that much to fix if it's just a blown fuse or even the driver chip.

Sorry, I came to a dead end with this problem. From what I could understand, after all the things I've tried, the solution was to change the mother board of the Mac. So, I just left it as is. The computer is still working fine....but the backlight is not working. Hope you solve your problem. Sorry couldn't help you.

I same have this issue however my logic board has been replaced and there hasn't been any water spilled on the MacBook. Ive reseated the logic board and keyboard connectors. Nothing, the animation on screen does happen but nothing physically happens. I really need help because I usually use my MacBook in darker places and I need to see the keyboard when I'm doing work.

Aaron, it's highly likely that you'll need to replace the entire top case assembly, as it comes with the keyboard built-in. Replacing the keyboard would likely do it, but that requires patience and an advanced skill level. I'm a former Apple Genius, and we did not replace keyboards for this issue...

Since the latest patch my Logitech G610 Keyboard lights turn off when playing this game. This problem only happens with this game. It doesn't happen with any other game. After talking to Logitech support and going through their trouble shooting it appears to be a compatibility issue with "Logitech Gaming Software" and this game. I contacted ea support and they said to post here in the forums for help. A temp fix is to just uninstall "Logitech Gaming Software".

I initially had a similar (at launch of game) problem with my key binding on my RAZER mouse and Keyboard (with the lighting). Turns out i have to keep the RAZER Synapse program running in the background in order for my mouse and lighting effects to work. 17dc91bb1f
