Frog - Our hero! An employee of C&F, they are charged with the unenviable task of ridding the company's teleporters of strange black creatures.

Cat - Co-worker in R&D. A decidedly generous individual who, from time to time, gives gifts. Clearly appreciates others.

Pink - The nurse, assistant, subsitute Custodial Artist and shop-keeper; what doesn't Pink do?!

The Boss - A cat and delegator of work. Something seems really off about her lately, though...

Kero Blaster is an adorable game, but the classic retro art should act as a disclaimer to anyone who remembers the challenges of the 8-bit era.

Understanding the encounters, strategization and execution are of paramount importance. Depth of gameplay sets Kero Blaster apart from other games--players will feel rewarded for thinking ahead, for playing precisely and without hesitation. Bubbles bounce, dropping below to decimate enemies; underwater, however, they flow upward providing relief from dangerous obstacles and menacing aquatic creatures. The blaster upgrades allow long-range attacks to deal with enemies that are tricky up close.

Each weapon works differently, so experimenting will help players find what works for them in each situation.

In Kero Blaster, Pixel's first full mobile offering, you control a frog working for Cat & Frog, a teleporter company. Armed with a peashooter and trained in the custodial sciences, he must venture forth to clean the teleporters of strange black "things". Find new blasters and upgrade them with coins, defeat bosses, and persevere in an epic quest to earn less overtime!

The game is reminiscent of Cave Story, but very much its own beast:a level-based, linear shooter to Cave Story's guided exploration. It has fantastic music and gameplay, and the graphics, though simpler, carry the same charm as Pixel's other works. It was designed for iOS (with a notably unique control scheme that makes moving and shooting a breeze) and is available on the App Store, but you can also buy a PC version from Playism. Though it's a shorter game, the well made levels and a few secrets and bonuses lend a lot of replay value. As the first new title that Pixel has released in half a decade, it's on par with Cave Story, and well worth a try.

Along with buying more hearts for your life meter, you can also buy a heart jar that heals you upon death, more lives, simply fill your health, or weapon upgrades. You earn more weapons as you defeat bosses in certain levels, giving you a total of four, plus the powerful kero blaster upon continuing after beating the game once (though you also need to find it). The main four weapons are a pea shooter that can become a punishing laser with long range but no spread, the wider fan that eventually becomes a storm of bullets, the ground covering bubble that also floats up in water, and a punishing flame thrower that eventually generates a rotating fireball you can fire off as an extra projectile. Each weapon has their use, even the seemingly useless bubble, and part of the challenge becomes figuring out what works best for what situation. For example, the laser is great for long distances, but enemies at odd angles may be better gotten with the fan or bubble, while enemies with high health counts may need a big damage dealer like the flamethrower. Upgrading these weapons just adds to all this, as the new properties they take on end up changing how they fundamentally function. 152ee80cbc
