Ken Termini Basketball
Healthcare and Pharmaceutical Professional
After a distinguished career in the pharmaceutical sector and achieving great success as a high school basketball coach, Ken Termini has focused on helping college student leaders leverage their experience during entry-level job interviews.
Early Career in Pharmaceuticals
Ken graduated from Penn State University in 1987 with a Bachelor of Science in Marketing. He began his professional career at Revlon, working for two years before joining Forest Pharmaceuticals. Over the next 27 years, Ken worked in various sales and sales management roles at Forest, gaining extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry. His ability to adapt to the complexities of the healthcare landscape played a significant role in his success.
Ken’s early success at Forest Pharmaceuticals was recognized when he earned all three of the company’s significant sales awards: Rookie of the Year, Representative of the Year, and Sales Manager of the Year. These awards underscored his strong performance and leadership abilities in a highly competitive industry.
Basketball Coaching Career
In addition to his pharmaceutical career, Ken found fulfillment in coaching high school basketball. His coaching career was marked by a series of successful seasons, during which he developed a reputation for leadership and dedication. Ken emphasized discipline, teamwork, and the importance of hard work on and off the court. His ability to motivate and inspire young athletes became a hallmark of his coaching style.
Ken’s teams achieved success under his guidance, and many of his players benefited from the life skills he instilled, including perseverance, confidence, and collaboration. His influence extended beyond basketball, as he helped shape the character and careers of his players, many of whom credited him for instilling the qualities necessary for success in life.
Leadership in Government Affairs
In 2002, Ken transitioned from sales management to a leadership role at Forest Pharmaceuticals, taking charge of the State Government Affairs Department. This move allowed him to engage with healthcare policy at the state level, representing the company’s interests and navigating the regulatory landscape.
Ken was promoted to head Forest Laboratories' Federal Public Policy & Government Affairs Department three years later. During this time, the company was navigating the implementation of the Affordable Care Act, and Ken’s expertise played a critical role in guiding the company through this complex period. His leadership ensured that Forest Laboratories remained compliant with evolving regulations and well-positioned for long-term success.
Final Role and Transition to Retirement
Ken's pharmaceutical career culminated in a return to a sales position with Forest Laboratories (now Allergan), where he worked as an Anti-Infective Hospital Specialist. His role involved dealing with infectious diseases and hospital-based IV antibiotics, bringing his career full circle from sales to policy and back to the field.
Ken Termini achieved his goal of retiring by age 50, a milestone he attributes to careful long-term planning, financial discipline, and a strong team of advisors. His philosophy, which he adopted at age 19, was to split life into thirds—one for learning, one for working hard, and the final third for enjoying the fruits of one's labor. This approach helped him reach his personal and professional goals, allowing him to step into retirement with a sense of accomplishment.
