Kennesaw ROcketry and Propulsion Team

Welcome

In what Bloomberg has called the New Space Age, our competition team wants to enable students to become better innovators through hands-on learning. The Kennesaw Rocketry and Propulsion Team (KRPT) seeks to combine the efforts of all professions, not just the STEM field, in order to create a more well rounded pioneer of the future.

WHAT WE DO

Design

The KRP is home to some of Kennesaw State University's finest engineers. We apply the synergistic efforts of our team to brainstorm and prototype effective solutions to meet budget, weight, durability, and safety constraints.

Build

Apart from the resources that KSU's Southern Polytechnic College of Engineering and Engineering Technology offers at the Makerspace, our members take advantage of the tools in our local community. We plan to work with fabrication and other workshops to help realize our objectives.

Test

Our team believes that rigorous testing is at the core of every good project. We meet regularly to discuss and collaborate about project matters, and to ensure that our vehicle meets safety standards and exceeds competition specific goals.

THE IREC/SPACEPORT AMERICA CUP

Our first-year team will be competing in the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) a conference led by Spaceport America and the nonprofit group, the Experimental Sounding Rocket Association (ESRA), this June. Student rocketry teams from around the world will compete in a virtual competition to showcase their hard work in designing a sounding rocket capable of carrying a payload up to 30,000 ft. in altitude.

The event provides students an opportunity to express their interest in STEM fields like aerospace, chemical, electrical, and mechanical engineering, and aerospace, rocketry, and space as a whole. Participants can experience firsthand the complex, but fulfilling journey of collaborating on a team to prototype, analyze, and test a safe vehicle to meet outlined criteria. We believe that this is exactly what crafts better engineers and visionaries.

For more details, visit the ESRA's website or Spaceport America's page. The Spaceport America Cup's specific requirements are listed here.
