Learning a science, like chemistry, is not just learning concepts like the chemical reactions. You will be learning content through lenses which we call crosscutting concepts. These concepts are ideas that you started to learn many years ago when you started to look at the world. The more knowledge you gain, the more you will build upon concepts that you have already learned. You will develop a stronger understanding of this concept the more you learn the little details. These seven (7) crosscutting concepts will be referred to within every concept learned. Keep track of their interactions to what you have learned before chemistry and make the connections to what you are learning.

These concepts should look familiar as the connection within the Energy Academy. These are the main concepts that connect different disciplines of science together. Whatever career you go into after your schooling, you will be engaged in focusing on one of these concepts.

Environmental pathway focuses on all seven of these with an environmental look - when a item is added to a system, what type of cause and effect relationship happens?

The engineering pathway looks at all seven with an improvement look known as engineering - when you see the pattern of something not working properly, what improvement will cause it to work more efficiently (an effect)?
