Exhibit 9
Dolly's Greatest Hits
Design:
Background: I love Miss Dolly Parton. She is like royalty to me, so I knew I wanted at least one of my portfolio pieces to be dedicated to her. I wanted to make album art for a possible greatest hits album (which to me is everything she has ever done ever). I wanted it to be very playful, colorful, and overall, just everything Dolly is!
Contrast: To achieve contrast, I used a bold script font and a serif pairing. I also added a darker drop shadow to the word Dolly to make sure you could read it from the background.
Alignment: I decided to make the words vertical, instead of horizontal, to flow with the arch's straight lines. My hope is that it isn't too difficult to read.
Proximity: I put the line, "The Greatest Hits" under dolly, and closer to the swoop of the letter Y. I thought it tucked into there nicely.
Repetition: I repeated the pink colors that I dropper tool selected from the image of Dolly herself. The photos I used were a bit grainy, so I made sure to make the background a bit grainy too. I feel it gives it a vintage feel.
Color: I wanted the background to feel like a dreamy sky, so I found a nice light gradient to use. I also used colors found within the image itself to tie everything together.
Font: The font for "Dolly" is called Casey from Adobe Fonts.
PHOTOSHOP:
I first created the arch shape by merging a circle and a rectangle together
I then copied the image of the meadow and special pasted it into the arch shape
I then added the photo of Dolly, and created a mask using the selection tool
I then cleaned up the edges with a brush
I then adjusted the meadow image hue/saturation to better match the image of Dolly
I then added the text and made it vertical. I lined it up with the arch's lines
I added a drop shadow to the text
I then inserted a rectangle and added a gradient to it, I then lowered the opacity to be a bit lighter
I then added noise to the background
