If you want over-ear comfort and noise-cancelling headphones for a big head, choose KEF Mu7; if you need compact in-ear earbuds for a big head, choose Anker Soundcore P42i. The Mu7’s over-ear fit and 40-hour battery with ANC make it the more natural choice for long listening sessions. The P42i is built for portable listening, with adaptive ANC, call-focused microphones, and a charging case.
KEF Mu7 vs Anker Soundcore P42i at a Glance
• KEF Mu7 strength: Over-ear design, touch controls, and up to 40 hours of use with Bluetooth and ANC enabled. Trade-off: It is a headphone, not a small in-ear option.
• Fit for a big head: The Mu7’s over-ear format avoids relying on an earbud fit, though the supplied details don’t specify headband dimensions or adjustment range.
• For calls and busy settings: The P42i has six AI-enhanced microphones and features aimed at reducing surrounding noise during calls.
• Choose the Mu7 if you want over-ear headphones with a wired option as well as Bluetooth.
• Choose the P42i if you want in-ear earbuds with a case and features for everyday noise and live events.
The KEF Mu7 is the straightforward pick if the word “big” in “big head” is your main concern. It is an over-ear headphone rather than an earbud, so it doesn’t depend on an in-ear fit. That distinction matters if you dislike the feeling of something sitting inside your ear. The available details identify it as adjustable, but don’t give headband measurements, so I wouldn’t assume a particular fit range from that alone.
Its strongest practical combination is Smart Active Noise Cancellation and up to 40 hours of use with Bluetooth and ANC enabled. Fast charging is useful when you’ve forgotten to top it up: 15 minutes of charging is stated to provide up to eight hours of playback. Touch controls cover playback, volume, and calls. Bluetooth 5.1 supports wireless listening, while a 3.5 mm jack gives you a wired option.
How We Research
We compare products from their published specs and features; the verdicts below are our independent editorial opinions.
The Mu7 makes sense for someone who wants one over-ear set for commuting, focused listening, or long stretches at a desk. Its aptX HD Bluetooth support is a notable audio feature, though whether that matters depends on your source and listening habits. Skip it if you specifically want something pocketable, or if you’re looking for in-ear earbuds rather than headphones. The product information lists a weight of 1 kg, another reason not to treat it as a lightweight earbud-style carry.
The Soundcore P42i is the better fit if you want actual in-ear earbuds for big head, rather than over-ear headphones. Head size doesn’t determine whether an earbud fits comfortably, and the available details don’t specify ear-tip sizes or fit adjustments. So I wouldn’t call it a guaranteed answer to fit problems. What it does offer is a compact in-ear format for someone who prefers earbuds and wants to avoid a headband.
Its feature set leans toward flexibility in everyday settings. Adaptive ANC responds to surrounding noise, and Natural Mode is intended for loud live events while keeping voices and the atmosphere more natural. Six AI-enhanced microphones are designed to help calls come through clearly by reducing surrounding noise. For someone searching for with microphone true wireless earbuds for big head, the P42i is the more relevant form factor of these two, with the important caveat that microphone features don’t establish how the earbuds will fit each person’s ears.
Battery life depends on the mode and whether you count the case. The earbuds are specified for up to 12 hours per charge in normal mode and 8.5 hours with ANC on; the corresponding totals with the case are 56 and 40 hours. A 10-minute charge is stated to provide up to 3.5 hours of listening. The P42i also supports LDAC and Hi-Res Audio, has Bluetooth 6.1, and carries an IP55 rating. Choose it if those portable-earbud features suit your routine. Skip it if you want an over-ear fit, a headphone jack, or the Mu7’s stated 40-hour listening time without relying on a case.
Side-by-Side: Which Should You Choose?
• For an over-ear option when you have a big head → KEF Mu7. It avoids the earbud-style fit, though the available information doesn’t provide headband measurements.
• For long listening with ANC and no case-based battery total → KEF Mu7. Its stated figure is up to 40 hours with Bluetooth and ANC enabled.
• For the longest stated total in normal mode → Anker Soundcore P42i. The figure is up to 56 hours with the charging case, compared with 40 hours for the Mu7 with ANC on.
• For quick charging before heading out → KEF Mu7. Fifteen minutes is stated to give up to eight hours of playback; the P42i’s 10-minute charge gives up to 3.5 hours.
• For calls in noisy surroundings → Anker Soundcore P42i. It has six AI-enhanced microphones and call-noise reduction features.
• For switching between Bluetooth and a cable → KEF Mu7. It includes a 3.5 mm jack; the P42i has no headphone jack.
• For in-ear listening with an IP55 rating → Anker Soundcore P42i. The Mu7 is the over-ear alternative and doesn’t list that rating in the supplied information.
In my opinion, I’d choose the KEF Mu7 if the priority is a comfortable over-ear format for a big head and long sessions without depending on a charging case. Its ANC-on battery figure and wired option make the decision easy for that use. If you prefer earbuds, the P42i has the stronger portable feature mix, especially for calls and adaptive noise control. But for my final recommendation for a big head, I’d pick the Mu7: it avoids the uncertainty of in-ear fit altogether.
The Mu7 is over-ear, while the P42i is in-ear. If you want headphones that don’t sit inside your ears, the Mu7 is the more direct fit for that preference. The product details don’t specify the Mu7’s headband dimensions or guarantee fit for every head size.
The P42i lists six AI-enhanced microphones and features intended to reduce surrounding noise during calls. The Mu7 has call controls, but the supplied details don’t specify a comparable microphone count or call-noise feature.
The Mu7 is specified for up to 40 hours with Bluetooth and ANC enabled. The P42i is specified for 8.5 hours per charge with ANC on, or 40 hours total with its case.
Choose based on the fit and routine you want. The P42i is an in-ear option with adaptive ANC and a case; the Mu7 is over-ear, has Smart ANC, and can also connect through its 3.5 mm jack. Check the current price on Amazon if you’re comparing cost; the features alone don’t determine which is better value for you.
