Mission

The mission of the Yurok Weyn-chokws Nee-muech Kee Ner-gery Program is to improve economic opportunity and financial security for Yurok women and girls who have been disproportionately impacted by harmful government systems and economic practices, historically and during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Goals

To support Yurok women and girls who have been disproportionately disadvantaged by court, criminal, and child welfare systems.
To heal and reintegrate Yurok women and girls impacted by substance use disorders and mass incarceration.
To support Yurok women and girls engaged in culturally significant income-generating activities.
To elevate Yurok women and girls who demonstrate responsibility in their community.

Eligibility Criteria

Enrolled Yurok Tribal member;
Woman or girl; and
Current or past participation in Yurok Tribal Court and/or Yurok Health and Human Services programs prioritized. However, all Yurok women and girls are welcome to apply.

Award Categories

Education (including tuition, books, and living expenses for students);
Vocational development (including training costs and licensure fees);
Small business formation;
Small business growth and development; and
Tools, equipment, and transportation for income-generating activities (including regular employment as well as fishing, beading, basket weaving, and other culturally significant vocations).

Application Instructions

Complete the Online Form Application. You may propose multiple projects and should describe each project clearly in the form.
Use the Budget Proposal Template to create a budget proposal. A budget must be proposed for each project in a separate section in the budget proposal worksheet. Budgets may be submitted via email to kcen.wnkn@gmail.com.
Respond to any requests for additional information.

Application Evaluation

Program Participation: Applicants who are current or recent participants in Tribal Court or YHHS programs, and who have demonstrated engagement and success, will receive priority.
Cultural Relevance: Proposals involving Yurok cultural activities (such as beading, basketweaving, or fishing) will be favored.
Project Plan: applicants should describe their proposed activities in detail, including a timeline for spending and tasks, as appropriate.
Proposed Budget: Applications should clearly explain how funds will be spent and how income will be generated by the activities described. Funds will be awarded for proposed projects in one of three tiers (detailed below), based on the needs for the proposal and the strength of the application.
Reporting Plan: Applicants must be prepared to demonstrate spending (with receipts if possible) and activities (such as in writing and with photographs).

Reporting Requirements & Instructions

Reports are due on or before January 15, 2023

Use the Accounting Template to provide a summary of your spending.
Use the Report Template to describe your project activities. Reports may include writing, photographs or videos, anything to show us how the microgrant helped you accomplish your goals!
