Two Semester Project

Motion Graphics is animated graphic design that can combine two or more of the following: text, iconography illustration, video with sound (always). Projects are typically informational in nature and output as a video file.

First Review: Project Definition & Story Design

(1st Semester)

1 - 2 Sentence Log Line

  • genre
  • target audience

  • emotional connection
  • Example log line: "In this Storybook Tablet App, three road construction toys, just children themselves, come to life and help each other work through typical emotional trials and tribulations. We aim to teach kids, ages 3-6, how to understand their emotions and move past feelings like frustration and anger to feelings of joy, laughter and purpose."

Function

  • Minimum 3 benchmarks for great writing that are similar to your project - screen shots with links
  • Production method: 2D, 3D, Stop-motion, video (Include pixel dimensions)

Begin Reviewing All Available Footage

Categorize it onto file folders according to the Socio-Emotional Content Framework

Brand

  • Perform a differentiation search and list at least 3 other benchmarks that are already in your conceptual space. Show screenshots of them (and link if avail.)
  • Describe how you will differentiate your concept and make it memorable

Aesthetics

  • Minimum 3 benchmarks utilizing designs that will create similar emotions - screen shots with links


Second Review: Filming & Footage Appropriation

(1st Semester)

Finish Reviewing All Available Footage

Categorize it into file folders according to the Socio-Emotional Content Framework

Script Outline

  • Script outline
    • Create list of existing footage
    • Create list of footage/motion graphics that will need to be created.
    • Writ narration script for any narrated sections that will be shot
    • List them in chronological order in sections organized by socio-emotional brain-types.

Add Committee Notes To Journal (Options Below)

  • Allow them to edit your document directly
  • Write your own notes based on their verbal feedback
  • Copy and paste notes from email or other correspondence
  • Include any visual image mark-ups (place them directly in the document)


Third Review: Filming

(1st Semester)

Create A Production Schedule

  • List all of the shots and put target dates for shooting next to the them.
  • All scenes must be shot by the 2nd review of the 2nd project semester ( 2nd week of Oct. or 2nd week of Feb.)

Finalize Script Outline

  • Make revisions based on feedback from last review

Shoot New Footage As Called For In The Script Outline

  • Assemble it into a Premier or Aftereffects Timeline
  • Export video for review (don't show in Premier Timeline)
  • Added or mastered sound design not required yet
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy
  • Check the film and animation guide for other tips

Fourth Review: Filming

(1st Semester)

Shoot More Scenes

  • Reference your production schedule for how many you need to shoot.
  • Add the scenes into the full Premier timeline
  • Export video for review (don't show in Premier Timeline)
  • Editing and color adjusting not required - will do later
  • Added or mastered sound design not required yet
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy
  • Check the film and animation guide for other tips

Final Review: Finish Filming

  • Insert them as still images into your Premier timeline

Make A Sound Design Plan

  • List the shots and list foley, effects, environment and scoring required for each
  • Reference the sound design plan guide.

Second Review: Filming & Sound Design

(2nd Semester)

50% Of The Motion Graphics Finished

  • Add them into the full Premier timeline
  • Export video for review (don't show in Premier Timeline)
  • Added or mastered sound design not required yet
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy
  • Check the film and animation guide for other tips

Produce & Appropriate (Gather) All Non-Musical Sound

  • foley, effects, environment

Third Review: edit & Sound Design

(2nd Semester)

100% Of The Motion Graphics Finished Added To Create The First Draft Of The Final Edit

  • Add them into the full Premier timeline
  • Export video for review (don't show in Premier Timeline)
  • Added or mastered sound design not required yet
  • Pay attention to visual hierarchy
  • Check the film and animation guide for other tips

Sound Design

  • Add foley, effects, and environment sounds to Premier timeline
  • Balance the volumes

Fourth Review: edit & score

(2nd Semester)

Revise Final Edit

  • Let feedback from the last review drive your editing
  • Add scoring and theme music

Scoring and Theme

  • Create or appropriate and add musical scoring to the Premier timeline
  • Create or appropriate and Add theme music for intro and credits (as needed) to the Premier timeline

Final Review

2nd Semester

Revise Final Edit With Scoring And Theme

  • Let feedback from the last review drive your editing

Film Completed And Published

  • Uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube

Turn In

  • Complete Slide show that includes all planning and production elements listed above.
  • 100% quality Pro-res file or mpeg4 video
